On Sunday December 11, Éric Ciotti was elected president of the Les Républicains party.
At 57, this former man in the shadows takes his revenge, after having long been the right arm of the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, who has become one of his main opponents.
Elected MP for the Alpes-Maritimes for the first time in 2007, Eric Ciotti stood out for his radical and very marked proposals on the right, particularly on security and immigration.
He is gradually gaining importance within the LR party and in 2021, he is running for the right-wing primary, facing Valérie Pécresse, Xavier Bertrand and Michel Barnier.
He was beaten by Valérie Pécresse in the second round but in December 2022, he won the presidency of LR against Bruno Retailleau and Aurélien Pradié.
