For the second consecutive year, Emmanuel Macron met at a summit on Tuesday with some of the main leaders of the Middle East to discuss Iraq, a country dismembered by the United States in 2003, whose stability is essential to the preservation of balances in the region.
But the absence on the Jordanian shore of the Dead Sea of the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim al-Thani, and especially the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed Ben Salman as well as his great rival, Ebrahim Raissi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, showed the limits of the exercise.
In the defense of the French head of state - at the origin of these meetings after having proposed the idea in 2019 to the president of the Iraqi Republic at the time, Barham Saleh, - the regional conditions have changed since the first edition in August 2021 of this format, called “Baghdad Conference”.
