Frustrated people from Taufkirch stand in front of the closed door without any further information and fear for their gifts – they are just brushed off at the Postbank hotline.

Taufkirchen - An inconspicuous glass door separates the people of Taufkirch from their Christmas presents - and that a few days before Christmas Eve.

The post office at Lindenring 7 has been closed since at least Saturday.

The only note on a piece of paper: "Technical fault, branch closed." Sighing, Postbank customers stand in front of the wood-panelled house.

Some wonder how they can explain to grandma on Christmas Eve that her new knit sweater isn't here.

Others ponder quick gift alternatives.

One question that unites everyone: What about my Christmas package?

"I think it's bottomless," says Inga Neuhofer (74).

Since Saturday, the woman from Taufkirch has been coming to the Postbank branch on Lindenring every working day to check on her parcel.

Her order includes the last two Christmas presents for her two daughters.

Without success.

"They really have a strange way of dealing with their customers," she says.

Customers can only guess what the exact reason for the closure is just before Christmas.

Anyone looking for help on the relevant branch via online search engines ends up at the “Postbank Interested Party Hotline”.

A neutral female computer voice explains: "We are currently receiving an unexpected number of calls, so we won't be able to serve you in the foreseeable future."

Elevator music and the request for "a little more patience" are replaced by a note to call again later.

There is no information about your own Christmas package.

Christmas packages in the post office: Not even an apology

“People are standing there in front of the branch every day,” says Inga Neuhofer.

It infuriates her that there is no contact information to turn to, no information on where there are possible alternatives and what happens to the parcels.

After all the inconvenience, she would have expected at least a simple apology from the post office.

"We are the customers!"

If Neuhofer wants to check the status of her parcel online, the only information that comes up is: "Unfortunately, DHL shipment tracking is currently not available to you." Neuhofer is also wondering whether her parcel is now disappearing from Taufkirchen again, without her having any influence on it Has.

Parcels are usually returned after seven days of storage in the branch.

Christmas parcels in the post office: problems with the provider

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular district Munich newsletter.)

When asked by Münchner Merkur, a Postbank spokesman explained: "For packages that are in the branch, the storage period is extended so that you can easily pick them up after the reopening." The reason for the closure is a problem with data transmission due to the provider.

Postbank itself cannot solve the problem and has to wait for a technician to arrive.

This is expected in the course of December 21st.

"We assume that the problem will be fixed later in the day," says the Postbank spokesman.

Christmas parcels in the post office: everything depends on the technology

As soon as the data flow is restored, the branch can reopen.

As in many areas, everything at Swiss Post depends on the technology.

If the provider has problems, neither computers, cash register systems nor self-service machines are running.

The good news: once the technology is up and running again, the pre-Christmas postal service can start again straight away.
