After two years of corona restrictions, customers again appreciate personal shopping in the store.

Retailers hardly notice that people are saving because of inflation.

Bad Tölz – Despite inflation and high energy prices, there is a lot of activity in the shops on Tölzer Marktstrasse.

The dealers and business owners hardly notice that the customers would save.

The pre-Christmas business is going well.

Pre-Christmas sales in Tölz: "Gherkin time is over"

"I'm super satisfied," says Maria Gmach, branch manager of fashion store Sara Boni.

"We had a pickle time, but that's over." Because of the Christmas market, buses with tourists would often come into town.

"Women always find something quickly with me," says Gmach happily.

In order to offer something to her customers, she recently held a fashion show.

The range at "Sara Boni" appeals more to the middle age group, explains Gmach.

This target group does not buy that much on the Internet.

"They want advice and want to touch and feel the clothes." In addition, more and more Munich residents appreciate shopping in the spa town, says Gmach.

"My Munich customers find it nice and easy here and appreciate the personal advice."

No saving: “People want normality”

The Urban bookstore is also happy about the good Christmas business.

"It's going very well," says owner Hubert Schöffmann.

He doesn't notice that customers are saving because of inflation.

“People want normality,” he suspects.

“They want to read and immerse themselves in other worlds.

Now they have their minds free for other things.”

His customers started their Christmas shopping earlier than usual this year.

"It started in mid-November, that's really very early," says Schöffmann.

He suspects that many people are unsure of what is to come and would rather have all the presents together sooner.

The Internet is not a significant competitor for the Schöffmann bookshop.

"Our customers appreciate our special range," says the owner.

Customers value personal advice in stores

The Internet does not cause sales losses in the Wiedemann perfumery either.

“Although our customers often get their information online first, they then come here to buy the product,” explains owner Christian Wiedemann.

"What counts is personal advice." Overall, Wiedemann is also satisfied.

"It runs fine.

We are ten percent up on the previous year.”

Christmas market attracts visitors to Marktstrasse

In the “s.Oliver” clothing store, it is rarely as empty as it is at midday when the Tölzer Kurier stops by, explains Antonia Wendler, who is in the third year of her apprenticeship.

There is always a lot going on on Saturdays during the Christmas market, and the shopping Sunday was also well attended.

Still, people would think more carefully about what they spend their money on.

And delivery bottlenecks are still noticeable at "s.Oliver".

"But we can't complain," says Wendler.

"Customers are all in a great mood"

At Stationery Zauner there are a few customers.

"Things are going satisfactorily," says owner Stefan Zauner.

"But we could do with a boost." Against the background of the price increases, there is probably a little less activity, Zauner estimates, "but we are satisfied when you consider what was forecast".

In his shop you can also feel that the manufacturers are raising prices, "but the customers are all in a great mood," reports Zauner.

"During the Corona period, we noticed how much people miss personal shopping.

Personal advice – that is what counts for us.”

Only parking spaces "missing everywhere"

Many customers also appreciate the specialist advice in the Schwaighofer wine shop.

"And you can try a lot," explains owner Claus Janßen.

"The gingerbread and apricot liqueurs are in great demand." Business is going well, but freezing rain and severe weather warnings would deter customers, Janssen recently observed.

In addition, he explains, the Christmas market is well received, "but there aren't enough parking spaces everywhere," Janssen hears from customers.

"It's a noticeable problem."

Mood almost as good as before Corona

The weather is also having an impact on business at the Rupprecht bookstore.

"There was a little less activity during the recent Blitzeis", explains branch manager Melanie Höfner.

Otherwise she is very happy.

"We really notice how much people feel like shopping again." The mood is almost as good as before Corona, and the Christmas market also attracts many customers.

Internet no competition

Large online dealers are no competition for "Rupprecht": "Our customers often research the Internet beforehand, but then come here and order the book from us," explains Höfner.

She suspects that many prefer to play it safe, because "currently goods ordered on the Internet are often difficult to receive".

How the Christmas business would go this year, Höfner had no idea in advance, she says.

"I calculated extra low, but it was exceeded." With the opening of the Christmas market, the Christmas business also began.

But the most stressful day is still to come for Höfner and her colleagues: "That's December 23 for us," she says.

"We work like an assembly line, but I enjoy it." Even at the very last minute, on Christmas Eve, books and the like can still be obtained from "Rupprecht".

Höfner himself prefers to have all the presents together sooner.
