From high-altitude flights to tragic crashes: Moosburg's Fliegerclub looks back on eventful times and a success story on its 60th anniversary.
Moosburg
- On this day everyone stayed on the ground and celebrated their community: The Moosburg Flying Club has existed for 60 years - and this was celebrated on Saturday at a Christmas party in the Maiers Hofstubn in Hausmehring (municipality of Haag).
Today the club has conditions that are the envy of other flying clubs and are admired for.
"We are very well positioned," said Chairman Michael Nenninger about the 160-strong association, which owns several aircraft and has created the entire infrastructure with the "Auf der Kipp" airfield.
In Moosburg it was never just a hobby for higher earners
In 1962, eight Moosburgers founded the club in the Gasthaus Kirchammer, and just two years later their own airfield was inaugurated.
Within the first five years of existence, hangars and the clubhouse were built with a lot of personal work.
With the premises and the machines of the club, the club's purpose of making the dream of flying possible for many members was fulfilled.
In Moosburg, it was never just a hobby for the better off.
In 2002, the club made a fresh start at its airfield after the Air Traffic Control Office had canceled the license on December 31, 2001.
There were new distance regulations between halls and the runway.
In the usual manner, the aviation friends tackled things again and built a new hangar including a clubhouse.
The new buildings were inaugurated in 2006 and secured the future of the Moosburg airfield.
Five years ago, the workshop was also built on the club premises.
At the celebrations for the 60th anniversary, the mayor of Moosburg, Josef Dollinger, had one wish above all for the members of the club: "Please always come down safely from above." The history of the club also includes accidents, some of which ended fatally and create sad moments of shock .
Flugplatzfest becomes a nationwide figurehead
The Moosburg Flying Club gained nationwide popularity through its airfield festivals, which are usually held twice a year.
A flea market was organized for the first time in 1979, and hardly anyone had any idea what would become of this baby.
The flea market on the Kipp is one of the largest events of its kind in southern Germany.
Flea markets, airfield festivals and parties brought in income for the association in order to maintain its own fleet of aircraft.
(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)
Chairman Michael Nenninger looked ahead at the celebration and was confident that future challenges would also be mastered.
The explosion in energy costs is also making the pilot's hobby significantly more expensive.
Nenninger also made it clear that a six-figure investment is planned – with a replacement purchase for the aging tow plane.
Furthermore, they want to expand the club premises to include a new gas station.

The chairman of the flying club also emphasized that efforts are being made to ensure good neighborly relations.
Care should be taken not to produce more noise than is absolutely necessary during take-off and landing.
The association also maintains a very good relationship with the city.
