Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif announced today that all 33 hostage-takers were killed in an operation carried out by Pakistani Special Forces, after they took control of the Bannu police station in the northwest of the country.
"The operation was successful," Khawaja was quoted as saying by AFP in a statement, announcing that two members of the Pakistani Special Forces were killed as well, and that between 10 and 15 people were injured in the operation, stressing that all the hostages were freed.
The hostage-takers, while they were being held on suspicion of terrorism, were supposed elements of the Pakistani Taliban yesterday who escaped from their jailers and took control of a police station, demanding safe passage to Afghanistan.
