After the death of a Palestinian in Israeli custody, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement called for a "day of anger".
Fatah also called for a general strike in the West Bank on Tuesday.
This was in response to the death of 50-year-old prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid, a senior member of Fatah's armed wing Al-Aqsa Brigades.
Organizations that support Palestinian prisoners have accused Israel of negligence in the medical treatment of the cancer patient.
A spokesman for the Israel Prisons Authority confirmed the death of one prisoner.
He suffered from an incurable disease and was taken to a hospital on Monday.
He received thorough medical treatment throughout.
The man was serving a life sentence.
He was convicted of murder and terrorist activities, among other things.
He was arrested for the first time in April 2002.
This was his fourth stay in prison.
"As with any case of this nature, the incident is currently under investigation," the statement said.
4,000 "security prisoners" in Israeli custody
According to Israeli and Palestinian human rights groups, well over 4,000 "security detainees" are being held in Israeli custody.
These mostly belong to militant Palestinian organizations and are accused of crimes against Israel's security.
Fatah has existed since 1959 and is the strongest faction within the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
Originally, it pursued the goal of completely liberating Palestine.
In 1993, its then chairman, Yasser Arafat, recognized Israel's right to exist as part of the Oslo peace process.
Since November 2004, Mahmoud Abbas, 87, has been the leader of the PLO.
In 1967, Israel conquered the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights in the Six-Day War.
The UN classifies the areas as occupied.
The Palestinians claim it for a separate state of Palestine - with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The peace process between Israel and the Palestinians has been idle since 2014.
