Weinstein, 70, was charged with two counts of rape and five counts of sexual assault. The former producer is already serving a 23-year sentence in New York.

Former film producer and convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein was found guilty in his rape and sexual assault trial by jurors in Los Angeles on Monday after several days of deliberation.

Weinstein, 70, was charged with two counts of rape and five counts of sexual assault against four women.

He was already serving a 23-year sentence in New York, where he was convicted in February 2020 of rape and sexual assault.

The jury, consisting of eight men and four women, found Weinstein guilty of rape, forced oral copulation and another count of sexual misconduct involving a woman known as Jane Doe 1.

The jury did not decide on other charges, particularly those involving Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Siebel Newsom alleged that Weinstein raped her at a Beverly Hills hotel.

"This is my worst nightmare," she said when declaring.

The jury reported that they were unable to reach a verdict on those charges and those of another woman.

A mistrial was declared on those charges.

The former producer was also acquitted of an accusation of sexual assault made by another woman.

During the trial, prosecutors urged the jury to believe the women's accounts, while Weinstein's lawyers stressed the lack of physical evidence in the case and asked them to put aside the emotional impact of their stories to focus, in what they considered, were inconsistencies in the testimonies.

Weinstein has pleaded not guilty and denied having had non-consensual sex.

The trial came just after the fifth anniversary of the allegations against Weinstein that made him a lightning rod for the #MeToo movement.

The former film producer, considered for decades one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood, tried to avoid his extradition to California, claiming that he had health problems that could not be treated if he was jailed in Los Angeles.
