Climate activism in Munich: New hotspot of the last generation

The blockade actions of the climate activists in Berlin have started.

Gradually they expanded their actions to the south of the Federal Republic.

On November 3rd, the last generation blocked traffic in the Bavarian capital for the first time at Karlsplatz.

Four days later, on November 7th, the next action followed at the Stachus.

An 18-year-old schoolgirl was taken into police custody during the protest.

On November 21 and December 6, the activists once again stuck to Munich's streets and gantries.

"For preventive averting of danger": City of Munich prohibits climate protests

Then, on December 9, three activists stuck themselves near the main train station between Goethestrasse and Paul-Heyse-Strasse.

Bayerstrasse was temporarily completely closed in this area.

Shortly thereafter, the city of Munich prohibited all climate protests in the city area by general decree "for preventive averting of danger".

The general decree is effective from December 10th, 2022, 00:00 a.m. and is initially valid until the end of January 8th, 2023.

"The ban on adhesives doesn't change anything.

We will continue to stick ourselves on the streets of Munich as often and with as much glue as necessary.

The ban on a democratic form of protest only shows the government's inability to react appropriately to the impending climate hell and to comply with our simple, vital security measures.

The resistance will continue.

You can't ban people who want to protect the constitution."

"What will probably happen Tuesday?" - Next action announced for Tuesday morning

On December 14, on Von-Der-Tann-Strasse, two members of the Last Generation in wetsuits showered each other with glue to show the "absurdity" of the city of Munich's tightening of rules on the protests, which came into effect on Saturday.

However, the campaign failed due to bad weather conditions.

During the protest, the activists held a banner that was supposed to announce the next action: "What will happen on Tuesday?" It read.

The group also announces the campaign online for Tuesday morning, December 20th.

According to Aimée van Baalen, spokeswoman for the last generation, traffic on the main road at Stachus should come to a standstill from eight o'clock.

Because of the protest actions on December 6th, two activists from the last generation are currently in preventive custody until January 5th.

According to their own statements, the police had actually only requested a period of five days.
