(ANSA) - LAMPEDUSA, DECEMBER 20 - Fatima was called the little one who was born yesterday evening, at 10.30 pm, on a Coast Guard patrol boat while it was docking at the Favarolo pier in Lampedusa.
The newborn, together with her mother: a young Ivorian, were taken during the night, in the emergency services of 118, to a hospital in Agrigento.
They're both fine.
The transfer was made in order for them to be subjected to medical tests.
The Coast Guard patrol boat had rescued the drifting boat, off Lampedusa, with 43 people on board - including 17 women and 3 minors - who had fled from the Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali and Burkina.
The delivery took place during the docking phases.
There was no time to transfer the woman to the Lampedusa health center and the baby was born on the patrol boat.
The Ivorian, mother of another daughter, was assisted by doctors and nurses from the Asp of Palermo, Usmaf and 118, in the presence of a cultural mediator.
