The young woman from Bad Lippspringe in the Paderborn district (NRW) has been missing since September 2020.
The then 26-year-old disappeared without a trace on a hiking tour in the southern Black Forest.
This summer, hope was sparked after a pair of sunglasses was found.
The result of the forensic investigation is now available, reports wa.de.
It is a setback for her family and for all those who have been searching for Scarlett S. for more than two years and want to know her fate.
The Waldshut-Tiengen public prosecutor announced on Monday (December 19) that there were insufficient DNA traces on the glasses found in the summer.
"It is possible that formerly present human DNA material was removed by microbial or weather influences," it said in a statement.

The 26-year-old disappeared on September 10, 2020.
On this day, she started the last stage of the Canyon Trail in Todtmoos, about 30 kilometers south-east of Freiburg.
Images from a surveillance camera that the police published on their search portal show that Scarlett was still shopping in an Edeka supermarket in the morning.
These are the last shots of the young woman.
She never arrived at the destination of the hiking trail in Wehr.

What happened to Scarlett is uncertain.
You could have had an accident in the steep and impassable forest area.
So far there is no evidence of a violent crime.
The broadcast of the ZDF television program "Aktenzeichen XY... Misst" on the Scarlett case also did not bring any hot leads, although immediately afterwards more than 140 tips on the missing person from Bad Lippspringe were received.

After the sunglasses were found in September 2022, the police launched another search operation.
The model is most likely identical to the glasses the woman wore on her tour, investigators said.

In October, the police had been to the gorge trail three times after reports of bones being found.
However, they were animal bones.
"There are currently no new findings or investigative approaches to the whereabouts of the missing," said the public prosecutor.
