In the pedestrian tunnel opposite the Nanchang Station of the MTR in Cheung Sha Wan, a suspected arson case occurred yesterday night (19th). .

The Police Major Crime Squad took over the investigation, including understanding the relationship and background of the injured woman to other street sleepers.

At about 9 o'clock this morning, the Sham Shui Po District Crime Squad and firefighters successively went to the tunnel at the scene of the fire to investigate.

The walls and ceiling of the tunnel were severely blackened, all light pipes were burned, and the objects of the homeless placed on the ground were either burned or wet by water.

The police set up a cordon to investigate, and it is believed that it cannot be used in the short term.

The injured 26-year-old woman surnamed Wu is currently hospitalized in Kwong Wah Hospital. It is understood that her burns on her hands are second-degree burns and she is conscious.

In addition, outreach social worker Wu Zhaokang also went to the scene to understand and assist.

He said that there are more than a dozen street sleepers in the entire tunnel, and he is lobbying the affected people to go to their community centers and arrange accommodation.

He continued that the age of street sleepers in Hong Kong ranges from 20 to 80 years old, and everyone has their own situation.

Wen Tsai, the founder of "Homeless People Walking Together", revealed that the tunnel at the site is mainly filled with homeless people piling up their belongings, and some people even take drugs here.

Due to too many debris, the original position of about 3 or 4 meters is now only enough for a person to walk, or a bicycle to pass by.

The volunteer estimated that it is not ruled out that some people who take drugs "are so high that they set fire to it", and they are more likely to be involved in drug disputes and be punished by setting fire.

As for the female injured, as far as he knew, she did not sleep here.

The fire caused Nanchang Station Exit C to be closed, and engineering personnel were on site this morning to repair the electricity.

MTR said the fire had no impact on train services.

The incident happened at 10:40 last night. The pedestrian tunnel connected to Exit C of Nanchang Station and leading to Shenwang Road suddenly caught fire.

Firefighters used one hose and one smoking cap team to fight the fire, and put out the fire by 0:05 am.

During the fire, a 26-year-old woman was sent to Caritas Hospital for burns and smoke inhalation, and then transferred to Kwong Wah Hospital for treatment.

It is reported that there were about 5 homeless households present at the time of the fire. Initially, it was not ruled out that someone was cooking to cause the fire; but after investigation, the firefighters believed that the cause of the fire was suspicious, and the police listed it as an "arson" case for follow-up.
