The year is almost over and the first people are already busy planning their holidays for 2023. But the reasons for traveling can be very diverse.

Travel can broaden your horizons, take you to another world, or just relax.

It is therefore hardly surprising that it is one of the favorite occupations of the Germans.

However, it is not yet clear whether there will be as much travel again next year as before the corona pandemic.

A current survey by the online travel portal

Urlaubpiraten

shows that 70 percent of those surveyed would like to travel next year despite inflation.

However, a representative survey by the market research institute YouGov on behalf of the language learning app

Duolingo paints

a different picture : According to this, more than one in three (36.9 percent) cannot imagine traveling more internationally next year than in 2022.

Social media is playing an increasingly important role in holiday planning

At the same time, the survey also looked at the reasons why Germans want to travel next year.

Probably not surprising: 44.5 percent of those surveyed need the vacation to relax.

For a third of those surveyed (34.3 percent), discovering new sights is important.

The third most common reason for travel is to experience new cultures (26.6 percent).

However, it is also evident that social media is playing an increasingly important role in holiday planning.

Not only that many are inspired by Instagram and Co. for their next travel destination - according to a survey on "Travel Trends 2023" by the flight price comparison

portal Skyscanner

, it is even every second person.

Creating new visuals to have content for social media is also a reason to travel.

In the Duolingo survey, creating content for social media ranks seventh as a reason to travel -- though that's true for just 3.4 percent of respondents.
