Bad Tölz - The Tölzer Kurhaus is to be expanded.

Since the building is getting on in years, it is to be supplemented by an outbuilding.

It is an architectural gem, designed by the famous master builder Gabriel von Seidl, but dates back to 1914 and is therefore no longer up to date in terms of stage technology, ventilation and catering options.

That's why the town of Bad Tölz has been considering for some time how to upgrade the prominent spa building in the bathing area with an outbuilding.

You will only see the glass facade of the new building

It is to be built on the west side of the existing building, but you will only see the glass facade of the elongated new building, the rest is to disappear into the slope between the Kurhaus and the so-called Türkwiese.

Among other things, it should house a new cloakroom, a toilet facility, an event hall and a storage and technical room in the basement.

With this you want to be better equipped for the numerous events in the house, but also to accommodate the current Kurhauswirt.

He is particularly pleased about the "wedding boom" that has been evident in Bad Tölz for a number of years.

A feasibility study was presented to the city council last year and it was decided to put the project out to international tender.

In the city council meeting on October 25th, the official planning contract was awarded to the architectural office Beer Bembé Dellinger from Greifenberg (district of Landsberg) in the non-public part.

This was announced by Mayor Ingo Mehner (CSU) these days at a press conference.

The office prevailed against 20 competitors, five applicants were shortlisted.

The jury for the building consisted of the three mayors (Mehner, Michael Lindmair, Christof Botzenhart) as well as representatives of the administration and monument protection.

The design of the open spaces, for which city councilors from the SPD and the Greens (Willi Streicher, Doris Bigos) are on the jury, will also be awarded soon.

Greifenberger plan the new outbuilding

The Greifenberger office is planning a building with a green roof that will have a glass facade facing the parking lot.

Inside there are stainless steel elements, lots of wood and a parquet floor.

Mehner spoke of a careful selection of the materials.

This was discussed intensively and the impression was gained that the architects and urban planners Beer Bembé Dellinger came closest to the city's ideas.

However, it is not possible to show a picture of the future design at this point in time, but it can be assumed that only the glass facade with the columns behind it will be visible from the building itself.

The building is built into the hillside so that the striking Gabriel von Seidl building, which dominates the Kurpark and is of course a listed building, is not visually impaired or "overwhelmed" by the new structure.

In this context, treasurer Hermann Forster referred to the recommendation of the preservationists.

Such a significant project is always a process of rapprochement.

You need trust for that.

According to Mehner, the architects should deliver a result in 2023 if possible.

According to the mayor, a decision can only then be made as to whether the plans will actually be implemented: "First of all, we need a price tag."

There are still a few questions to be answered before the project can be implemented

In the current implementation phase, there was no talk of an underground car park planned for Türkwiese with an underground connection to the new annexe, nor was the Kurhaus conversion work and the future use of the small Kursaal on Vichyplatz mentioned.

There are still many unanswered questions before the project can be realised.
