The Palestinian terrorist Arafat al-Rafaiah was convicted today (Tuesday) of the murder and rape of the young woman Uri Ansbacher.
In his decision, Jerusalem District Court Judge Rafi Carmel rejected the claim of mental incompetence presented by A-Rafeaiah's defense attorneys - and ruled that he is fit to stand trial.
Therefore, the accused was convicted of all the offenses attributed to him in the indictment.
The trial took place this morning at the end of a legal battle and about four years after the body of 19-year-old Ansbacher from Taku was found in Ein Yael, in the forest near the place where she served national service.
Her acquaintances testified that she went alone to the forest - and was found lifeless a few hours later with severe signs of violence on her body.
The judge rejected the claim of mental incompetence.

A-Rafaiah, a resident of Hebron, fled the scene immediately after the murder - and was located the following day due to evidence found at the scene.
In his first investigations, he claimed that he did not know that it was a Jewish woman and said that he would have been a murderer even if it had been an Arab woman.
However, as the investigation developed, he said that he had taken a knife from his home with the aim of murdering Jews, and that he would have released the victim if it had been an Arab affair.
He admitted his actions and even retraced his steps.
The sentencing hearings are expected to take place on January 11.
