Train passengers can breathe a sigh of relief: the construction work on the route between Schaftlach and Tegernsee has ended.

From Wednesday morning, December 21st, the trains will be rolling again.

Tegernsee – The Tegernsee-Bahn was able to keep its word: As planned, construction work on the route between Schaftlach and Tegernsee was completed yesterday, Tuesday.

Since today, Wednesday (December 21), from 4.30 a.m., the trains of the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB) have been rolling again.

Michael Bourjau, managing director of the Tegernsee-Bahn, felt a little better on Tuesday afternoon (December 20) when he was able to report that a difficult phase of construction work was now over.

However, the construction crew had to work at full steam on the renovated Freikircherl level crossing near Schaftlach.

Here the tar layer had to be applied at the transition and then the function of the barrier had to be checked.

"The weather played along this time, too," says Bourjau happily.

Because that was not always the case during the construction work, which began on Monday, December 5th.

Among other things, the difficult subsoil between Gmund and Seeglas and the overlying layer of gravel had to be renewed in order to secure the track system.

A damaged track had to be replaced in Gmund, and so-called tamping work was also necessary at several points along the route.

The work then came to a standstill due to extreme sub-zero temperatures, and the closure of the route had to be extended.

Associated with this: rail replacement bus services – a sensitive issue given the current shortage of bus drivers.

Closure of the railway line between Tegernsee and Schaftlach: Tegernsee-Bahn thanks you for your patience

“The track was in incredibly bad condition,” Bourjau admits.

"I'm glad that we've created a bit of safety on the route again with the renovation." At the same time, the managing director thanks the passengers for their patience.

Tegernsee-Bahn gets the route into shape: lubrication system at Gmund is to follow

Speaking of patience: a number of residents on the Gmund track curve still have to muster it up.

Because the lubrication system is only to be installed again in January.

It should prevent the annoying squeaking of the trains.

“Where the rumor came from that we no longer want to install these is a complete mystery to me,” says Bourjau.

Together with the BRB, the Tegernsee-Bahn is investing 60,000 euros.
