The High Court of Justice today (Wednesday) rejected the petition of the Movement for the Quality of Government, which asked to order the police and the legal adviser to the government to explain why they will not open an investigation against the municipality of Haifa and Mayor Einat Kalisch-Rotem, following the suspicions of prohibited investigations against its opponents.

The Israel Police and the Legal Adviser to the Government for the petition stated that "recently a decision was made according to which after examining the allegations made against the mayor. There was no room to open a criminal investigation, and this in the absence of evidence to establish suspicion against her."

Attorney Tomer Naor, who represented the movement for the quality of government, said: "These are very serious suspicions, based, among other things, on audit reports by the internal auditor of the municipality of Haifa.

The materials were handed over to the Israel Police nearly a year and a half ago (!), when, to our great regret, after endless foot-dragging, the police ordered to examine the matter only under the drawn sword of the legal process at the High Court - and even so, without us knowing that any of the applicants to the movement had been summoned to testify Testimony or for investigation. His will is the face of things, we have nothing but great regret for this behavior of the Israel Police. We will examine the facts and the police's statement to the court, and we will consider the continuation of our legal steps - including filing an appeal for the closure of the case."

Attorneys Amit Haddad and Noa Milstein, who represent Haifa Mayor Einat Kalish-Rotem, said: "We welcome the decision of the honorable court to order the deletion of the petition. This is a petition that dealt with unfounded false complaints filed by political opponents and therefore it is clear that there is no The petition has every basis."

Judge Khaled Kabov concluded: "After a review, we came to the general conclusion that the petition should be dismissed outright. Since the state's respondents were informed of the decision not to open a criminal investigation, indeed, the petition in its current form was redundant and is no longer relevant. Moreover, the petition should be dismissed outright because , and now, the petitioner must exhaust procedures in accordance with the law with the competent authorities, moving to submit a petition to this court by filing an appeal."

As you may recall, following suspicions against Kalish-Rotem, for carrying out prohibited investigations against her opponents, the Movement for the Quality of Government petitioned the High Court, demanding that it order the police and the legal adviser to the government to explain why a criminal investigation was not opened against the mayor.
