A phone on wheels? Apple continues to get into trouble Israel today

2022-12-21T12:30:04.822Z

At Apple they dreamed of a car that drives itself • Eight years later it throws up its hands and apparently settles for a car with a steering wheel and pedals

Apple's non-existent car is perhaps the best example of its arrogance and shattering on the ground of reality.

Apple's romance with the car started years ago, but even a giant like it, understands again and again, that making a car is a rather complicated matter.

The statements at the beginning were bombastic as usual and expected from a technology giant.

The goal was clear, to produce a car that would lead humanity into the autonomous future.

Indeed, Apple started developing a fully autonomous vehicle, but after several years, someone realized that presentations are separate and reality is separate.

A car is a more complicated matter than a cell phone.

Now the company is updating its vision and moving, once again, the launch date to 2026. The reason, Apple understands that there is really no choice, and the existing technology limitations mean that a car still needs a steering wheel and pedals.

As I recall, these were not included in Apple's original plan, which dreamed of introducing a self-driving car.

The company produced prototypes and conducted experiments in vehicles without such steering wheels and pedals.

It may be worth emphasizing this point again.

At Apple they planned to launch an autonomous level 5 car that frees the driver from all driving actions, while the rest of the industry wavered with (justified) concern between level 2 and 3 (in limited and defined areas).

Apple ICAR was supposed to be driven by an independent autonomous system (codenamed Denali) with a processor specially developed by the company.

A dream that is still far from reality.

Beyond that, it seems that Apple is still lagging behind in other areas of development.

In fact, they declare there the possibility of using an existing electric platform, of a more well-known manufacturer, in order to save time and money on the way to the launch.

It's a bit strange that Apple now remembers these two resources - time and money.

Over the past eight years, since it started working on its own vehicle ('Project Titan'), the company has poured a lot of money into the dreams of the autonomous vehicle.

Already in 2014, the annual investment in the project was estimated at about 10 billion dollars and throughout the year it grew beyond this number.

If we take these data into account, we won't be surprised if rumors surface again that Apple has decided to give up and go back to concentrating on computers and smart phones.
