The National Center for Earthquakes signed a memorandum of understanding for scientific and technical cooperation with the (Algerian National Center for Applied Research in Earthquake Resistance Engineering), which includes cooperation in the field of studies and research to mitigate seismic risks.
The memorandum also includes, according to Dr. Raed Ahmed, Director General of the National Center for Earthquakes, the training and qualification of technical cadres, and the exchange of experiences for specialists in the field of seismic engineering, in a way that contributes to developing the work of the center and increasing its ability to carry out its tasks, in order to achieve buildings and facilities that are more resistant to earthquakes.
Ahmed said in a statement to SANA reporter: The importance of this memorandum comes from the fact that the Algerian National Center contains an engineering laboratory to study the behavior of structural elements and models of buildings and vital installations, which enables us to apply seismic loads on any model or design, and to know the places of potential design damage, adding: Activating the agreement will enable Syrian specialists to conduct the necessary experiments to develop the Syrian Engineering Building Code.
