Engineer Rasha Sukkar, Head of the Vegetables Department in the Plant Production Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, stated that the areas cultivated with the potato crop for the fall harvest amounted to more than 7,200 hectares, distributed in several governorates, pointing out that the highest cultivation rate was in Aleppo on an area of 2,273 hectares, while the area implemented in Daraa amounted to 1,150 hectares. 979 hectares in Homs, 1716 hectares in Hama, 1062 hectares in al-Ghab, and 85 hectares in Idlib.
Sukar indicated that the autumn season of potatoes is grown from the beginning of July until mid-August, and begins production in October. area, indicating that the productivity of this lug covers the need of the local market until the beginning of February.
She added: The total estimated production quantities for this lug amounted to 116,654 tons, distributed among the governorates of Aleppo with 34,095 tons, in Hama with 25,740 tons, in Al-Ghab with 16,989 tons, in Homs with 14,720 tons, then in Daraa with 23,000 and in Idlib with 2,110 tons, indicating that the productivity of one hectare ranged. Between 15 and 25 tons, and productivity varies according to the type of product used, the nature of the land, and the service operations provided.
