In the Grafrather district of Mauern, an open-space photovoltaic system could be built on an area of a good 30 hectares.

Grafrath – The municipal council is open to the project.

However, there are still some question marks.

The affected areas at the town entrance of Mauer coming from the direction of Grafrath were briefly discussed for a photovoltaic system (PV) as early as 2009.

However, a change in the Renewable Energy Sources Act made the construction of such plants more difficult.

The topic was off the table – until now.

Excluded from advice

The areas, known to the locals as Inninger Feld, Altinger Feld and Mühlhart, belong to the farmer Max Riepl-Bauer, who also sits on the Grafrather municipal council for the CSU/BV.

There he asked whether the committee was interested in a PV system on the three sites.

As a person directly affected, Riepl-Bauer was excluded from the consultation.

However, he presented the project in as much detail as the early stage of planning allowed.

Accordingly, the Inninger Feld covers around 21 hectares, the Altinger Feld comes to around seven hectares and the Mühlhart to three.

However, the areas would not be completely built on with PV modules, since Riepl-Bauer would like to keep appropriate distances to the residential buildings in Mauern.

Act

"It's high time that we got active locally and thought about how we would position ourselves energetically," said Riepl-Bauer in view of the current energy crisis.

The citizens could also benefit from this.

Because it is legally possible for households and businesses within a radius of four kilometers to be able to draw electricity directly from the system.

According to Riepl-Bauer, this would be significantly cheaper than from the other electricity suppliers, since some fees and charges would be eliminated.

The Mauern farmer tried to dispel concerns about the appearance in advance: "Of course, such a system is not invisible, but you can green it up with hedges and integrate it into the landscape." However, this convinced Josef Hackl (Grafrather Einigkeit /GE) not.

He even considered it "an impertinence to present the Wallers with such a system".

involve citizens

On the other hand, the plans were well received by the rest of the committee – although there are still a few questions to be clarified.

Above all, many council members want to involve citizens at an early stage.

Thomas Prieto Peral (Greens) therefore applied for a location concept to be drawn up, as recommended by the Bavarian state government.

Among other things, minimum distances to buildings and requirements for greening could be specified.

This motion was approved by a vote of 9:7.

My space

It was also disputed whether the municipality or citizens should be able to participate in the PV system.

Riepl-Bauer himself rejects this.

He sees the area as part of his farm.

It is also still to be clarified with the district office how to deal with the fact that the areas are in the landscape protection area.

Ultimately, however, the council members agreed in principle that the project should be pursued further.

Riepl-Bauer can now go deeper into the planning.
