Grocery supplies, camping stoves, hygiene items: The municipality of Icking advises citizens to make provisions for a power failure.

Now there is a leaflet campaign.

Icking – The municipality has written a shopping list for every resident.

Among other things, there are 28 liters of liquid, 4.5 kilos of grain products, 6 kilos of vegetables, bandages and a camping stove.

The Ickingers found the list in the mailbox.

The community has distributed flyers for the emergency, the blackout.

In addition to recommendations on the supplies that should be kept in every household, the leaflet contains further information.

In the event of a power failure lasting several hours - according to the flyer, a blackout is referred to as more than twelve hours - an emergency meeting point will be set up in the town hall, which Ickinger can go to at any time of the day.

"There you can find out about the current situation," explains the municipality.

In addition, emergency calls could be made there if the mobile phone batteries are empty after hours without electricity.

Icking is the first municipality in the district to contact citizens directly when it comes to blackouts.

"You hear about it everywhere and the municipalities are required to make provisions themselves," explains Mayor Verena Reithmann.

It was important to the community to explain to the population what precautions they should take.

One of them that some may not have on their radar: organizing neighborhood help so that they can help each other in an emergency.

Grocery supplies, medication, candles: what you need in an emergency

The community is not concerned with stoking even more fear of a blackout - they want to achieve the opposite: "Those who have taken precautions do not have to panic," says Reithmann.

This includes a food supply for two weeks, necessary medication for several days, candles, camping stoves and a family emergency plan.

In addition to the information sheet, the municipality has distributed a form to fill out: The people of Icking can use it to indicate whether they are in need of help, are buying meals on wheels or have medical devices that need electricity.

The community also hopes for local residents who can provide emergency help - because they generate electricity themselves or volunteer to help with relief efforts.

The municipality cannot judge how realistic the scenario is: “The risk is not new.

Due to the current energy situation, it has increased accordingly.”
