At Christmas, last-minute shopping for food and gifts is usually still possible until noon – with two exceptions.
Munich – In the last few days before Christmas, preparations for Christmas Eve are in full swing.
By the deadline, short-term gifts will be obtained, ingredients for the more or less opulent Christmas dinner will be gathered and the broken Christmas tree baubles will be replaced.
But be careful: In retail, December 24th is often only considered half a working day - the employees there also deserve a contemplative evening with family or friends.
So here is an overview of where and when you can stock up on Christmas paraphernalia and presents on the festive day.
Christmas in Munich: Uniform opening times for supermarkets – with two exceptions
There are many traditions, often family ones, for Christmas dinner.
In addition to the simple classic Vienna sausage with mashed potatoes, the discerning cook can also try the Beef Wellington.
However, if you have to change your plans at short notice because of a vegan family member, there is no avoiding a shopping spree in the supermarket or discounter.
Fortunately, many grocers are still open until noon.
This also applies to the Munich branches of
Lidl
,
Penny
and
Aldi
, where you can still shop until 2 p.m.

The four
Kaufland
branches, the Haidhauser V-Markt on Balanstraße and the
REWE
supermarkets are also open until 2 p.m. for last-minute shopping.
If you then notice that the Christmas goose is still missing the thyme, you have to come to the main or east railway station.
The respective
Edeka
branch – actually open until 11 p.m. – supplies customers at Christmas until 5 p.m.
At all other locations, the Edeka supermarkets close at 2 p.m. like their competitors.
Gifts at the last minute: Here you will find short-term gifts
Whether before or after the joint feast - Christmas without presents is hard to imagine.
Surprising increases in holiday company can therefore cause stress levels to skyrocket.
If you can't find anything suitable in the non-food department of supermarkets and discounters, you still have the chance to get a last-minute gift elsewhere.
The branches of the ailing department store giant
Galeria Kaufhof offer a wide selection
.
At Rotkreuzplatz, at the main train station and in Kaufinger Straße, the range offers a wealth of possible gifts until their doors close at 2 p.m.
Anyone who thinks more of electronics when they think of a gift can also help themselves at
Saturn
on Karlsplatz until 2 p.m.
Jewelry is also available at
Tiffany's
at Stachus until 2 p.m.
The higher-priced department store
manufactum
about one kilometer further in the old town has the same closing time.
Next door,
Dallmayr Delicatessen offers delicacies
until 2 p.m. that are just as suitable for the Christmas feast as they are as gifts.
