The expert jury was enthusiastic again: Melissa Bungartz, who was born in Freising, has once again earned an important award for portrait photographers.

Freising

– Award for the photographer Melissa Bungartz: For the fourth time in ten years, the native of Freising won the gold award in the competition of the Association of Professional Portrait Photographers (bpp).

Her picture on the subject of wind took first place among the 265 entries.

As in the past, the expressive visual language was striking, the jury judged.

"Hardly any other photographer in Germany has managed to book so many top-class titles," says the bpp.

In an interview with the Freisinger Tagblatt, Bungartz tells the story of how her award-winning work came about.

Freisinger Tagblatt:

Mrs Bungartz, how did the idea for this picture come about?

Melissa Bungartz:

I wanted to clearly focus on the strong element of wind.

One should be able to see at first glance how man struggles with this element.

Hence the umbrella, which is pushed horizontally by external forces.

I chose the suit to reduce all other external elements as much as possible.

The viewer should not be distracted by clothing, hair, or even the gender or skin color of the person.

It is about the human being as an abstract being - not about a specific individual in particular.

Was it difficult to implement?

Yes, because it was pretty cold at the time and my model, Carolin Gläser from Freising, was only wearing a very thin body suit.

You can't see very well with the suit because the fabric is over your face.

In this respect, it was particularly challenging for my model to implement my instructions despite poor visibility.

But we are a great team.

Nature is always stronger than man.

And that's just as well.

Melissa Bungartz

What message does it convey to the viewer?

Because the photo is so reduced in form and colour, there is plenty of room for your own interpretations.

For me personally, man is trying to take on a powerful element of nature here - and is pretty much at a loss in the process.

Nature is always stronger than man.

And that's just as well.

What does the award mean for you and your work?

It's not your first...

For me, this is a great appreciation of my work.

Such an award also promotes free work.

If I have so much success with it, then I also like to take the time for free projects and my own creativity in my free time outside of commissioned work.
