President Yitzhak Herzog met this evening (Wednesday) in Jaffa with the leaders of the city's Christian community and turned on the Christmas tree lights.
The mayor of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Ron Huldai, and retired Supreme Court judge, George Kara, were also present at the visit.
The President addressed the members of the community with a Happy Holidays and said: "It is a great privilege that in this beautiful city, Tel Aviv-Jaffa, we have thousands of years of shared life and different and varied beliefs. We gather here, on this evening, and convey a message that is full of light to the world, a message that says that it is possible to live Here together."

"There is a lot of light here that is created from a shared life, the sons and daughters of this small community, reaching enormous heights in Israeli society," said Herzog.
"If we look at the whole picture, it seems that there is progress, there are always threats and the tension is there, but nevertheless we must tell the truth: there are also huge improvements. We are with you our Christian brothers."
Huldai later spoke and announced that the municipality will continue to respect all religions and note all the traditions of the communities living in it, "I wish we were blessed with this diversity and the ability to accommodate it in the rest of the State of Israel as well."
He also referred to the changes that have been taking place in Jaffa in recent years, which he said were intended to improve the quality of life of its residents.
