A case of severe violence and threats against medical staff, at the General Hospital clinic in Holon, where the late nurse Tova Carraro was set on fire five and a half years ago: a patient threatened the clinic staff with a weapon, and later it turned out that it was an air rifle without bullets.

The patient stopped.

Yesterday (Tuesday) a patient arrived at the general clinic in Holon who went to the pharmacy and asked the pharmacist for fentanyl patches, a drug used to relieve severe pain.

The patient then pulled out a weapon and threatened to shoot himself if he did not immediately receive the stickers.

The staff at the clinic contacted the police, called for help and were instructed to hide in a protected room, but the patient arrived there and threatened them.

The police arrived and arrested that person.

The general doctors' organization is expected to close the clinic as a sign of protest against the rising violence.

In March 2017, a patient named Asher Faraj, 78 years old, set fire to the late nurse Tova Carrero during her work at the same clinic of the General Hospital in Holon. He was convicted of murder, sentenced to life imprisonment and later ended his life in prison.

Following the shocking incident, a committee was established at the Ministry of Health to eradicate violence against medical staff, in which Carrero's daughter, Nofer Carrero Aslan, was also a member.

Some of the committee's conclusions, including placing a police officer in every emergency room, have not been implemented to date.

Also the recommendation to allow a complaint to be submitted on behalf of the organization and not by the health system employees has not yet been implemented.

In general, it is noted that recently an order was issued by the management of the cash register to stop providing the fentanyl patches, which contain opioids and are addictive, to people who have been using them for years.

Apparently this was also the case in the current case when the patient came and asked to buy stickers and was answered in the negative.

A senior general said:

"Consumers of the same drugs like Penta will run amok in the clinics when they don't get these drugs because they are addicts. The matter must be settled with the general management before any of the staff members are killed."
