As the new year is approaching, the demand for New Year's goods among the mainland people has increased greatly. Some smugglers are trying to smuggle a large number of New Year's goods to Shanghai for profit by covering their eyes.

Following the earlier (October 26) Customs uncovered a smuggling case involving ocean-going vessels worth 300 million yuan, the Customs again focused on cracking down on smuggling activities using ocean-going vessels, which were detected for two consecutive days (11 and 12) last week In two related cases, a large number of suspected smuggled goods were seized, including expensive ingredients, table wine, electronic products and controlled endangered species, with an estimated market value of about 200 million yuan, and five men involved were arrested.

This is the second largest sea smuggling case detected by Customs this year, and it is believed to have successfully dismantled a smuggling syndicate.

Zheng Dexi, supervisor of the Special Investigation Section of the Customs Organized Crime Investigation Division, described the case and pointed out that Hong Kong Customs earlier adopted a special law enforcement operation code-named "Escort" through intelligence analysis. ) intercepted two ocean-going vessels and seized about 200 million yuan of smuggled goods in 9 containers. Customs estimates that if the goods are successfully smuggled, about 130 million yuan of taxes can be avoided.

Customs Organized Crime Investigation Division Special Investigation Team 2 Commander Lai Enning explained the operation. Customs officers locked up an ocean-going ship carrying 400 containers from Hong Kong to Shanghai at the Kwai Tsing Container Terminal last Sunday (11th).

Customs inspected the shipping documents and found that 4 of the containers were declared to contain rubber granules (GPPS). Since there are production-related goods in the Mainland, the import of GPPS into the Mainland has aroused suspicion.

Officers then used mobile X-ray equipment to check and found that the material, shape and density were uneven, and it was obviously not a single cargo as declared.

After the customs officers opened the container, they found that there were four sheets of plastic particles on the outermost side that met the declaration, and then the side of the cargo was covered with black tape, including dried seafood, red wine, and 2,000 boxes of stroke medicine from unknown sources, worth about 150 million Yuan.

Upon investigation, Customs arrested two men involved in the case, including a director of the delivery company and another person in charge of arranging the export of the goods.

Customs Organized Crime Bureau Special Investigation Team 1 Commander Lui Shaohui pointed out that the Customs launched another operation on the next day (December 12) to inspect another ocean-going vessel at the Kwai Tsing Container Terminal.

4 of the containers reported to be carrying clothes and household goods were considered suspicious, and one of the containers was found to contain more than 70,000 vinyl records, seafood, electronic products, sake and dried seahorses and other regulated endangered species, worth about 22 million .

Zheng Dexi explained that in recent years, there has been a boom in coffee shops in the Mainland setting up vinyl record players, so there is also a large demand for vinyl records.

The Customs was on the ocean-going ship and found 4 containers of smuggled containers that were also declared to contain rubber particles. The same method was used to smuggle laptops, cosmetics and electronic products, worth about 73 million yuan. The Customs arrested 4 men involved in the case, including the delivery The director of the company and the person in charge of arranging the export of goods, one of them is also related to the recent smuggling case.
