A dream came true for Mercedes Nemeth from Olching: She was allowed to take part in a special on the TV show “Perfect Dinner”.

Olching – Not only was the level very high this time, but the spectators can also join in the puzzles.

The VOX show "The Perfect Dinner" has long been an integral part of the evening program.

The cooking show, in which a different participant demonstrates his skills every day and is judged by the others, has many fans.

This includes Mercedes Nemeth from Olching.

Culinary art plays a major role in her life, says the 38-year-old.

The fiance helped a lot

And now she's taking part in the special "The Perfect Dinner - Who's the Pro?"

Here, one of the five-person dinner group is a professional chef.

By the end of the week, however, no one will know who.

Because the professional indicates a different profession.

Nemeth went through an application process and shot late night selfie videos with her fiancé to introduce themselves.

But then came Corona and a long wait.

In the summer of 2022 the time had finally come, she received the confirmation from Cologne.

"It was a dream come true for me," she says.

Tomorrow, Thursday, 7 p.m., the woman from Olching will prepare her menu.

Mercedes Nemeth introduced herself to the other participants as an international wine expert. She even set up her own food start-up (Kokuvin) for wine-based delicatessen products.

The variety of aromas in the wines plays a major role for the best chefs in the world, she says.

Her three courses were inspired by her favorite season: autumn.

“The play of colors in nature, the rustling of the leaves under our feet, the shiny chestnuts we have collected ourselves, which we enjoy as hand flatterers when we touch them.

I also like exactly this sensory journey when cooking.”

As a starter, the 38-year-old served pumpkin noodles with shiitake mushrooms and a red wine barley risotto.

For the main course, a fillet of venison in Asian stock with celery, pointed cabbage and so-called vintage plums.

Curd dumplings with roasted apricots, tonka bean ice cream and cashew crunch followed for dessert.

Cooking with all flavors

When cooking, she pays great attention to the so-called Kokumi effect.

It is about a perfect interplay of the different flavors sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami, which comes from the Japanese and means tasty.

My space

The passionate cook is a little annoyed that the time for the preparation was a bit short.

“I would have liked to have tried cooking a few courses more often.” Because she is actually a very structured and ambitious person.

But when the call came from Cologne, she was practically on her way to her summer vacation.

Filming had already begun a few days after her vacation in September.

Very nervous on your own cooking day

“Obviously I was very nervous on my cooking day,” admits Nemeth.

But that quickly subsided because it was a nice group and the fun in preparing the food for the guests outweighed it.

The atmosphere was very relaxed.

"After a short time I forgot all the cameras around me." Even if it was full in her house with crew and equipment.

Incidentally, the professional format cooks all over Germany, not just in one city or one region.

Each day, participants were picked up in a darkened black van and blindfolded.

"That was exciting.

Almost like a blind date!” says the woman from Olching, laughing.

The initial excitement quickly gave way to a great atmosphere and group dynamics.

The 38-year-old reports that there were still one or the other surprise effect for her when she was placed.

But more will not be revealed at this point.

Only: "I'm absolutely satisfied." And she would take part in a show again at any time.
