The Syrian Association for Hemophilia patients held a scientific symposium on “von Willebrand” disease this evening at the Miramar Hotel in Lattakia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the International Federation of Hemophilia and the Medical Syndicate in Lattakia.
The Assistant Director of Health in Lattakia, Dr. Samer Ahmed, spoke about the complementary role played by the local community institutions, socially or medically, in spreading health awareness in the community, in addition to the role of the Ministry of Health through dozens of health centers spread throughout the Syrian geographical area.
And the head of the Medical Association in Lattakia, Dr. Munther Baghdad, stated that the symposium discusses Von Willebrand disease and presents the latest therapeutic developments for it, along with discussing the problems and complications caused by neglecting this disease, pointing to the valuable lectures presented by the symposium program, hoping to reach constructive proposals in the field of disease treatment.
The President of the Syrian Society for Haemophilia, Dr. Tahani Ali, presented a brief overview of the disease, noting that it is acquired and hereditary, occurring in one percent of people, and is distinguished from haemophilia in that it affects both males and females, pointing to the importance of early detection in treatment, explaining that cases are classified into three types according to the severity of the disease. and its development in the case.
And she indicated that the association has 200 registered cases, most of which are of the third type, which requires hospitalization, stressing that “von Willebrand” is associated with certain heart diseases, malignant tumors, thyroid diseases, and others.
A recording of the World Hemophilia Federation's speech was presented by Dr. Cesar Garrido, in which he talked about the similarities and differences between hemophilia and von Willebrand and the latest global developments in detecting cases and optimal treatment according to the international classification.
The symposium program includes several sessions talking about the clinical manifestations of von Willebrand disease and its management, the impact of the disease on women's lives, how to care for the patient, and early detection of the condition.
