The Civil Guard investigates the beating death of a 77-year-old hotel businesswoman in Guardamar del Segura

The Civil Guard is investigating the beating death of a 77-year-old woman at her home in Guardamar del Segura (Alicante), which occurred on Tuesday night, according to her 51-year-old son, who also has injuries, although of mild character, and is admitted to the Torrevieja Hospital.

The son of the victim, owner of the Guardamar hotel, has declared that three or four assailants entered the house that they both shared with the intention of robbing, they beat them and tied them up.

The Judicial Police and the Homicide group of the Alicante Command try to corroborate her testimony, which, according to sources familiar with the case, offers serious doubts.

The victim, well-known in the Alicante town, opened her tourist establishment more than four decades ago with her husband, who died a few months ago of natural causes, indicate the sources consulted by EL PAÍS.

Although she had already retired, she used to spend a good part of the day at the hotel, which is currently run by three of her four children.

Around midnight yesterday, she returned to her home, located on Lepanto street, which she shared with her other son, "sick and user of narcotic substances for years," according to these sources.

He was the one who, hours later, shortly before 6:30 in the morning, called the emergency services.

At the scene of the events, members of the Local Police and the Civil Guard appeared.

In the house were the corpse of the woman, with obvious signs of violence, and her son, who also had injuries.

According to what he recounted, three or four people had broken into the building, beaten them and tied them up with zip ties.

He lost consciousness and, upon awakening, found that his mother had died and raised the alarm.

The health personnel who responded to the call confirmed the death of the woman and transferred the injured man, assisted by head trauma, to the Torrevieja Hospital, where he is still admitted, sources from the Emergency Information and Coordination Center (CICU) of the Valencian generalitat.

After the first intervention of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard, the investigation has passed to the Homicide Group of the Alicante Command.
