This additional day off has been offered to employees at party headquarters in Ivry since November 7.

"Additional and optional", a day of menstrual leave has been set up by the Socialist Party for employees of its national headquarters in Ivry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne), announced the PS on Wednesday.

While the Spanish deputies adopted last week, in first reading, a bill creating a “menstrual leave” for women suffering from painful periods, a measure unprecedented in Europe, the party recalls that this measure was part of its program , especially during the last presidential election.

Its head office, located in Ivry-sur-Seine, has around thirty employees, half of whom are women.

"This right aims to improve the quality of life at work and more particularly the well-being of women subject to these difficulties", argues the PS.

He specifies that this day off is available “since November 7, 2022”, to cope with the constraints that employees “on permanent contracts, fixed-term contracts, work-study or internship”, “encounter during periods of menstruation”.

This menstrual leave completes another system already in place within the PS, "the provision of free periodic protection", adds the press release.

Pain that impacts work, for 35% of respondents

The Socialist Party had welcomed the decision of the Spanish Socialist deputies, evoking an “unprecedented feminist conquest in Europe carried by our political family”.

According to an Ifop survey of October 2022, 65% of women in paid employment have already faced difficulties related to their periods at work, 53% of employees have painful periods and 35% declare that their menstrual pain negatively impacts their work. .
