He is a "creator of satire", "a creator of himself", "a universal talent": This is how the Munich writer Moses Wolff is described in the media.

He has now published his tenth novel, which deals with the death of King Ludwig II.

"The king's gendarme.

The Starnberg Protocols follows in the footsteps of the fairy tale king and gives - so much is promised - an insight into the private life of the monarch.

Berg/Munich

– The novel is told from the perspective of the gendarme loyal to the king Ludwig Staudacher, who is called Wiggerl and who doesn't know exactly whether he likes men or women.

What irritates and also endangers him appropriately: This is not an easy lot in the second half of the 19th century.

"Unnatural" was prosecuted and punished.

So much can be revealed about the book: It is very entertaining and exciting to read and peppered with historical facts, it also does the rest for further education;

the district offers enough locations that can be recognized in the book, and the death of Ludwig II was not a suicide.

Mr. Wolff, how did you come up with the idea of writing a book about the fairy tale king's last years from the point of view of a policeman?

I've always dealt a lot with King Ludwig II.

At the age of fourteen I read everything I could get my hands on about Ludwig II.

So you're a real Kini fan?

Absolutely.

With this book, I wanted to make Ludwig II understandable and alive.

It was also important for me to clarify how his death could have happened in the first place.

Incidentally, there are hardly any novels about the fairy tale king apart from “The Ludwig Conspiracy” by Oliver Pötzsch from 2011.

In the book you tell the story from the point of view of the fictitious gendarme Ludwig Staudacher.

Why?

I wanted to shed light on the topic of diversity in that era.

At the end of the 19th century it was almost impossible to talk about a particular sexuality, let alone profess it.

The imaginary character of the gendarme Ludwig Staudacher, who was born on the day of the coronation of Ludwig II, allowed me to mix historical fact with fiction.

Wiggerl allowed himself to think of many things that were very unusual at the time.

Like Ludwig II, Wiggerl is a dazzling figure...

I agree.

The king was ahead of his time and was a pacifist all his life.

However, unlike my gendarme, he was hardly ever confronted with “simple” people.

I have an extensive Ludwig II book collection and fortunately have hardly ever had to resort to the internet.

The novel "The Gendarme of the King" sheds light on the last days of King Ludwig II from the perspective of Gendarme Ludwig Staudacher.

In June 1886 he was supposed to bring the incapacitated King of Neuschwanstein to Berg Castle.

He gains insight into the delicate private life of the monarch and witnesses the deaths of Ludwig and Dr.

goodness

During the investigation that followed, Staudacher got to know many of the royal court employees who were keen on experimenting with sex.

The policeman's life changes in a very short time, his private life becomes eventful and colourful.

However, the results of his investigation into the case of the dead king fell on deaf ears with his superiors.

The public should continue to believe that the king chose suicide.

But Ludwig Staudacher knows the truth.

Author Moses Wolff was born in Munich in 1969.

Having grown up in Pasing, after attending a few schools and a few professional "orientation trips", he decided to become artistically active.

The actor and screenwriter – among other things for the film “Highway to Hellas”, realized in 2014 with Christoph Maria Herbst and Adam Bousdoukos in the leading roles – is the winner of the Schwabinger Kunstpreis 2015. His comedy series “Wildbach Toni”, which he developed with Richard Westermaier, has been in to see internet.

The illustrations for The King's Gendarme are by author and comic artist Mike Maurus.
