The Munich coffee roastery Emilio has to close.

After a dispute about the rental agreement, operations on the former site of the Togal works came to an end.

Munich – Emanuel Clemm (33) stands in front of his roasted coffee beans – and what he says sounds bitter.

The boss of the Munich coffee roasting company Emilo recently informed his 30 or so employees that he cannot continue to employ them.

Clemm: "That was the hardest day of my life." Reason: Emilo has to vacate his business in Levelingstrasse (Berg am Laim).

He moved there with his company about ten years ago, now he has to be out by January 19th.

A lengthy process had preceded it.

The real estate company "neuplan" bought the complex - the former Togal factory - more than a year ago.

It plans to demolish the old structure in order to build a modern and sustainable property on it.

Emilo's rental contract would have actually run until the beginning of 2024.

However, the new owner accused Clemm of not having made written agreements with the previous landlord.

Because of this violation, the company terminated the contract.

The regional court agreed with "neuplan" - and also sentenced the roastery to eviction.

The new owners emphasize that they have repeatedly approached Clemm to find a fair solution - also with the offer of a severance package, according to the company.

Clemm would also have had the opportunity to stay in the rooms for several months longer.

However, he obviously decided to break off the settlement talks.
