The federal government is currently announcing one relief package after another: Next, people are to receive 200 euros from the state for their birthdays.
Berlin/Kassel – On Friday (November 11), the budget committee of the Bundestag approved the federal budget for 2023, in which around 750,000 people are to receive 200 euros from the state for their birthdays.
The idea is not new - and the implementation is still unclear.
200 euros for your birthday from the state: what the money is intended for
With a credit of 200 euros, the traffic light coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP wants to encourage young people to experience culture, following the example of other European countries, the federal government announced on Friday (November 11) in Berlin.
"We want to open the way to culture," said Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth (Greens) at a press event.
"We want to get young people excited about the diversity of culture in our country."
The so-called "Culture Pass" should also support the cultural industry, which continues to suffer from the effects of Corona.
She is still struggling with a dramatic audience decline.
The assets are intended for cultural purposes, which include, according to Roth, for example:
Books
Visits to museums and exhibitions
cinema performances
concerts
theatrical performances
The federal government is providing 100 million euros for the pilot project.
That was decided by the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag.
The funds would come from the budget of the Minister of State for Culture and the Media.
Stiko boss Thomas Mertens sees the pandemic situation as over: The corona virus is now endemic, he says – but will remain with us for generations.
200 euros for your birthday from the state: who will get the money
All young people who turn 18 in 2023 received a credit of 200 euros.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, that will be around 750,000 people.
They could redeem this credit for two years on a digital platform that will be available as an app and website.

Cultural providers could register on the platform and offer concerts, theater and cinema performances there, for example.
Tickets for museums or exhibitions as well as books or vinyl records should also be part of the offer.
Registration is limited to local cultural providers.
Large sales platforms and online mail order companies are excluded.
The "Culture Pass" is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2023.
If successful, the program could be opened up to young people aged 15 to 17 in a second step.
