The lowest salaries in the public service will be increased by 1.8% on January 1, 2023, an increase identical to that of the minimum wage recently announced for private sector employees.
Meeting Thursday morning, the Council of Ministers adopted a draft decree which brings the minimum salary in the civil service to 1712.06 euros gross monthly, details the Ministry of the Civil Service.
The measure concerns nearly 409,000 public officials employed by the State, local authorities and public hospital establishments.

In the private sector, the minimum wage will increase by 24 euros per month, to reach 1353 euros net on 1 January 2023 (i.e. 1709 euros gross).
In the civil service, the increase announced Thursday is the fourth increase in the lowest wages in fifteen months, while inflation has returned in recent months to levels not seen since the 1980s (+ 6.2% over one year in November ).
While several unions consider that these successive upgrades are insufficient, the ministry is ruling out at this stage a new general measure to increase salaries but it plans to launch discussions at the start of 2023 around the career paths and remuneration of civil servants.
