Karl Lauterbach (SPD) has new lamps in the ministry: he shares a curious picture of himself on Twitter - and thus provokes mixed reactions.

Berlin – SPD Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has been known throughout Germany since the beginning of the corona pandemic at the latest.

He made a name for himself as a constant reminder and as a supporter of strict measures - even among political opponents.

Since he became Minister of Health in the traffic light government under Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), he has had enormous tasks.

Among other things, the overcrowded children's hospitals, which he initially wants to save with an emergency plan, are his responsibility.

He continues to polarize with his measures, but repeatedly exposes himself to the debates on social networks, where he often encounters sharp opposition.

In this respect, he should have been aware that his post will not remain without comments either.

But he seems to have accepted it.

Karl Lauterbach shares the picture of himself on Twitter.

He can be seen with a halo: in the background a lamp that nestles around his head like a pre-Christmas glow.

With a wink, he writes: "We have new lamps in the BMG", by which he means the Federal Ministry of Health.

Karl Lauterbach: The reactions to his strange Twitter picture

We need lights, not lamps..." writes user Gunnar Henrik Heine under Karl Lauterbach's post.

Other users also react rather negatively - refer to the difficult economic situation, in which new acquisitions are not necessarily needed, for example.

Others refer - without context - back to Lauterbach's Corona policy.

"A large part of society may have far too many existential problems right now to have time for stupid tweets.

But our political elite obviously has no sense for that,” says user Simone Weiss.

User Bernd Arnold, on the other hand, writes: "Nice photo for a new purchase!

I had to laugh out loud :-) I think a little self-mockery in politics is good, because it is already missing in so many places in society." (kat)
