To get in the mood for Christmas, we invite you to the Advent window.
Today we look through a window of one of the cat houses at the Josefa Burger shelter.
Gelting - It's cold.
Thick white flakes fall from the sky.
But that doesn't bother Simba and Tefi in the least.
The cat and the cat lady have it good: They sit in the warmth and look out the window.
They calmly watch the snow drift in the garden of the Josefa Burger shelter.
For two and a half years they have been living in one of the cat houses together with Mikesch and Mokwe.
Actually, there were six of them once.
Geretsried: 26 cats get their bread of mercy in the Geltinger animal shelter
The animals lived together with their master in Geretsried.
The man died and was probably in his apartment for a week.
Neighbors noticed this because of the unsightly side effects.
The police called the shelter and manager Manuela Ravara came to capture the cats.
Four went into her net.
“One seemed to have starved to death,” she reports.
They found the fifth four-legged friend after six weeks.
He hid in the washing machine - and survived.
Unfortunately, one of the animals had to be put out of its suffering.
The long period of starvation had irreversibly damaged his health.
Now the four elderly and cuddly furry friends share a house in the animal shelter.
The two males and two female cats are between 13 and 16 years old and cannot be placed.
This is due to external circumstances, because they are still very fit for their age, as Ravara says.
"We have no news from the district court," she adds.
This means that it is still not clear what happened to the cats after the owner's death two and a half years ago.

26 godparents take care of cats in the "senior citizens' residence"
The quartet enjoys its twilight years at the animal shelter.
The cat house has underfloor heating, there are loungers for lounging and windows for looking out.
Feeding places and toilet are included.
"All cat houses have a garden," adds Ravara.
The four-legged friends can go in and out day and night.
Employee Kristina Wölm and the godparents, who support the animals of mercy financially and who also stop by from time to time, provide pats and treats.
There are currently 26 who live permanently in the shelter.
"Many are seniors," says Ravara.
Like 16-year-old Cindy, who was taken to the vet for euthanasia because she got in the way of her owners.
"Now she lives with us in the retirement home." Some also have a disability or are ill.
Like twelve-year-old Gismo, who suffers from ataxia and found a home in Gelting in June of this year.
Ravara and Wölm sincerely thank the sponsors and voluntary helpers of the animal shelter for their commitment.
