TV MAGAZINE.

- During your concerts, do you feel the

“Prodigies” effect

with the younger generation?

Gautier CAPUÇON - At each of my concerts, I meet young children and families who come to talk to me about “Prodiges”.

Some have even discovered classical music thanks to the France 2 program. It makes many children dream, it is anything but cheesy.

Every year, I see all the happiness that these young artists have in sharing their passion for music, singing or dancing.

Being accompanied by a philharmonic or symphony orchestra is an opportunity they will not forget.

With Julie Fuchs and Marie-Claude Pietragalla we feel a lot of emotions following them.

It is also an opportunity for some to become familiar with stage fright, apprehension, it is important to accompany them to help them manage all this.

Whatever the category of young artists,

“At each of my concerts, I meet families who talk to me about “Prodiges”.

The show is a dream of many children.

Every year, I see how happy these young artists are to share their passion.

Among the fifteen young candidates of

"Prodiges"

, many are trained in conservatories.

What do you think of musical training in France?

We have excellent conservatories in France, accessible to the greatest number and to all budgets.

It's a great system that allowed me to become the cellist I am today.

The jury of "Prodiges"

shines with its benevolence, but is this always the case during major music, singing or dancing competitions?

The young artists have before them a smiling jury.

We have to be kind.

I put myself in their place.

I went through a lot of competitions and auditions, I've been there.

A few reviewers did not behave well.

The role of the teacher is to bring out the best in the student without ever being overwhelming.

Some try to destabilize you.

These are formative experiences but that's all I hate.

In the program "Prodiges" on France 2, the artists are all winners in a certain way since they are given the chance to live the experience of a concert with a hall and an orchestra (the symphonic

Divertimento

by Zahia Ziouani ).

What do you expect from aspiring prodigies?

That he tells us a story, that they succeed in thrilling the public and the members of the jury.

This year, we have a trombonist who has great musicality, a great attitude.

“I have been involved in education and transmission for more than ten years.

Music is sharing.

»

Today, you accompany artists from the small school to their first concert?

For more than ten years, in fact, I have been involved in education and transmission.

Music is sharing.

I started with the Excellence Classes at the Louis Vuitton Foundation.

This year I created the Gautier Capuçon foundation to help young string and piano instrumentalists get on stage.

Pianist Kim Bernard released his first CD with Erato.

Next June, I will present a trio of musicians: Italian pianist Martina Concini, violinist Sarah Jegou and cellist Jeein You.

As sponsor of the

Orchester à l'école association,

I transmit the taste for sharing and the joy of working together on a musical work from an early age.

You initiated the Unété

en France

festival .

France 2

broadcasts following “Prodiges” the 2022 edition, at 11:30 p.m., where are you?

We are preparing the 4th edition of the “A summer in France” tour.

This traveling festival is a project of the heart that I had wanted for a long time and which appeared as obvious during the confinement in March 2020. During the first edition I performed 23 concerts which is quite crazy when you think about it .

These outdoor concerts, free for the public of towns and villages, aim to democratize classical music.

During the third edition broadcast on France 2, we finished in Six-Fours in the Var in front of 5,000 people, it was absolutely magical.

Most spectators had never attended a classical music concert.

The varied program included French songs, film music and modern works.

I played

Praise to

by Olivier Messiaen.

This ten-minute work from the 20th century was the favorite of the public.

It is a great joy to experience this.

You are also returning to Chambéry, your home town, what did you feel and experience there?

We settled in the new conservatory with regional influence (CRR) built on the edge of the Verney park, the central park of Chambéry that I crossed as a kid, to reach my dad's office and the old conservatory on rue Paul Bert.

I took my first cello lessons there at the age of 4 and a half with Augustin Lefebvre, an extraordinary teacher who passed on his passion for music to me, as well as piano lessons with Christophe Egiziano.

It's very moving, I am surrounded by my parents, my sister, some of my nephews and nieces and the Chambéry public.

Around 13-14 years old I got my cello prize in Chambéry and then my piano prize later.

I took lessons from Annie Zakine-Cochet, a Savoyard woman who sent me to the CRR in Paris;

“With Fée, our eldest daughter, we are playing together for the first time, during the encore but not during the concert.

I told myself that if I didn't do it, I would regret it all my life!

It's a gift for me and for her.

Fairy, your eldest daughter, is dancing for the first time in public by your side, did you hesitate to place her in the spotlight?

I hesitated for a long time because I didn't want to put her in a difficult situation.

We play for the first time together, during the encore but not during the concert.

I told myself that if I didn't do it, I would regret it all my life!

It's a gift for me and for her.

She was in her world, not at all disturbed and I was moved to accompany her in front of 5,000 people.

Fairy is only 13 years old.

Our daughter dreams of becoming a professional dancer.

I hope it will come true but it still has its whole life ahead of it.

What about your second daughter, Sissi, who is studying the cello?

Sissi continues the cello but is passionate about musicals and theater.

She has just had her first acting casting.

We have two very artistic daughters but they will follow their own path.
