He has been the father of Leila

2022-12-22T11:21:14.358Z

A celebrated column by the journalist and writer Leila Guerriero provokes smiles among fans of the Argentine team even when the team saw its victory in jeopardy

Everything seemed tied up and well tied up.

There were barely 10 minutes left for the final exaltation of the god Messi.

Dozens of Argentines had gathered in a confirmation and brotherhood ceremony at the Ripalda Boludo bar.

It was communed with empanadas and beers.

There was a festive atmosphere, Buenos Aires, in the middle of the old neighborhood of Carmen in Valencia.

Then, France scored two goals in a jiffy.

Stupor and disbelief took over the parishioners.

There was a moment of silence loaded with bad omens.

Right at that moment a message popped up on the mobile that broke any drama, at least for the reader of it.

It was a tweet that said: "This was the father of Leila Guerriero, who accidentally bumped into a TV."

It was from the scriptwriter and columnist Paloma Rando.

Another came shortly after from writer Brenda Navarro:

"Check what Leila's father is doing, it's urgent!"

There was more, all in the same line: ironic, complicit, funny.

"Hahaha.

That they send him quickly to the street or they lose”;

"He had to go back home to go to the bathroom, he's leaving!";

"Sir, go for a walk";

“It seems that the father of @ leilaguerriero2 stopped in front of a television”;

or "Maybe he changed the channel again by mistake."

All of them alluded to the celebrated column

La Anticábala

published in this newspaper on December 14 by the Argentine writer Leila Guerriero.

In it, the journalist also told how her brothers were convinced that her father was jinxed for the Argentine team and they had forbidden her from watching the games.

No problem, the parent, although Argentine,

passes

of soccer.

The irrefutable proof of the brothers was that the man made a mistake with the television control and accidentally tuned in to the Argentina game against the Netherlands, just when they scored a second goal.

One of them sent the father “for a walk in the park” under the summer sun.

Argentina ended up winning.

For this reason, when France thrashed at the last minute, not all the fans of the albiceleste lamented or cursed.

Some smiled at each other and wondered what Leila's father was doing.

That column had been widely shared and praised on Twitter on both sides of the ocean, after dispelling any doubts about the nuances in the meaning of the word cabal in Argentina (and other Latin American countries) and Spain.

There it is "a superstition based on the use of a certain amulet or ritual to have good luck in something", according to the first meaning of the

Dictionary of Americanisms;

here, a "guess, supposition", according to the RAE.

The column is an emotional and funny tribute to the father, which concludes like this: “That's a father.

Someone who does not hesitate to fulfill, in the name of a love that he will never confess, the absurd extravagance ”.

When Argentina won the World Cup, after extra time and a penalty shootout in a long and unforgettable final, some Twitter users came to the fore again: “How far did @leilaguerriero2's father have to go today?”;

“A long walk, it looks like he got in.

He must be tired ”;

"It wasn't Messi or Di María, he was Leila Guerriero's father and we all agree with that";

"Tell @ leilaguerriero2's dad that he can come back from the walk!";

or "Someone bring a bottle of fresh water to the father please!!".

There were requests for a second part.

The first one was so well received that Leila Guerriero wrote a second column in EL PAÍS, Argentina being already champion and the Ripalda Boludo bar, an epiphany of albiceleste chants, accompanied by autochthonous fireworks and the interjection

che!

(

xe!, in Valencian

), which unites Argentines and Valencian fans, who never forget the wake of Mario Kempes.

The title of the second article cleared up any suspicion:

My father walks in the park

.
