Dutch police arrested two Syrian brothers, aged 20 and 22, in the south of the Netherlands, near the Belgian border, on suspicion of preparing a "
terrorist
" act, the prosecution said on Thursday.
An investigation had been opened into the brothers after the transmission this week to the public prosecutor's office of information from the Dutch secret service (AIVD) about them, said the prosecution in a press release.
The two men, "
suspected of preparing a terrorist offence
", were arrested on Wednesday evening in Stein, in the province of Limburg, near Maastricht, he said.

During the arrest and search of the suspects' homes, no weapon or explosives were found
," added the prosecution, which did not give information on the nature of the act prepared by brothers.

The investigation is now focusing on what the suspects had in mind
,” said a spokesman for the prosecution, quoted by Dutch public television NOS.
The prosecution does not expect any further arrests as part of this investigation, NOS said.
