He wanted to go back home - and found his dream job by chance through an article in our newspaper: We are talking about the new expert for subsidies from Regionalentwicklung Oberland (REO): Michael Stacheter helps companies in the district to acquire grants.

Miesbach/Valley - It was just one sentence, way back in the article that reported in our newspaper in July about the merger of the location marketing company (SMG) and the Alpenregion Tegernsee Schliersee (ATS) to form the regional development Oberland (REO).

But he made Michael Stacheter sit up and take notice.

The 33-year-old was working as a consultant at the time, specializing in the public sector.

He traveled nationwide to support municipalities, ministries, scientific institutions and non-profit organizations in overcoming various challenges.

"But it was always my wish to work at home," says the political scientist from Valley.

From municipal council to funding guide

When he read that REO wanted to set up a funding pilot service to help companies and municipalities acquire grants, he knew: this is it.

He persistently asked those responsible again and again when the position would be filled - and finally applied with success.

“I am happy to be able to support the companies in my home country so that they can use one or the other funding pot for upcoming investments,” says Stacheter, who was a member of the Valley municipal council from 2014 to 2020 until he gave up the office for professional reasons .

Information and help with the application

Since the beginning of November, he has been the REO subsidy guide, responsible for guiding companies in the Miesbach district through the jungle of subsidy pots: "The federal subsidy database alone lists well over 330 programs," explains Stacheter, "and on top of that, they're constantly changing .” His task is based on two pillars: Informing companies about possible grants.

“I will approach the companies proactively, because many do not even know what funding options are available.

Secondly, Stacheter helps with the application: “What are the stumbling blocks?

Are the documents complete?

Have all options been exhausted?”

As a funding guide, Stacheter thus covers a need that exists in the regional economy: the REO had previously conducted a survey.

"As it turned out, the majority of companies would like to be proactively informed about subsidies," says REO board member Alexander Schmid.

The majority of companies in the district have already applied for grants.

However, many do not even know that and which subsidy options exist or shy away from the effort of applying.

There is great interest in funding for digitization and the topics of energy efficiency and renewable energies.

Also in the field of research and innovation.

There are numerous funding opportunities in these areas.

For example, the so-called digital bonus Bavaria, which - depending on the project - allows up to 10,000 euros, but also up to 50,000 euros in grants.

Further examples are the Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings, which provides support for the refurbishment of buildings.

In addition, the so-called innovation voucher, which supports the cooperation of small companies or craft businesses with research and development institutions.

It's about a lot of money

A total volume of all funding programs cannot be defined exactly, explains Schmid, since the funding pots change and are not always full.

But it is clear: "It's about a lot of money, it's not peanuts." REO wants to bring this money to the district with the help of the funding guide.

Schmid cites LEADER as an example, through which around four million euros have already flowed into the district.

The funds are often allocated according to the so-called wind-dog principle: whoever applies first gets the funds.

"With the Förderlotsen, we provide companies with a competent contact person who has extensive knowledge of various funding programs," says Schmid.

The offer is aimed primarily at small and medium-sized companies.

Large corporations are often equipped with an in-house funding guide.

Tourism industry as a beneficiary

Harald Gmeiner, tourism board member of REO, is happy about the new pilot: "The tourism industry can also benefit from it," he says - and reminds of the corona pandemic.

There were also aid programs for private landlords of rooms or apartments.

"Many didn't apply for it because they didn't know anything about it." Simon Kortus, who is responsible for Leader funding at REO, will remain in office regardless of the new pilot.
