Opinion The game of memory: the Palestinians and the Europeans against history Israel today

2022-12-22T20:18:48.443Z

For thousands of years the occupiers of the land worked to obliterate the hearts of the people of Israel, but in vain.

1.

They found a date for the disclosure of the European Union's document regarding its intentions to promote a Palestinian state, and to work to transfer the C lands from the control of Israel to the control of the Palestinian Authority.

Precisely on Hanukkah, which marks the rebellion to liberate our country from foreign invaders.

As I recall, the rebellion began in 167 AD in Modiim and ended 25 years later, in 142, with the liberation of Judah and Jerusalem and significant parts of the Lowlands and the coast and the establishment of the Hasmonean kingdom under the presidency of Shimon, the only one left of the five sons of the Hasmonean Mattathias.

Antiochus VII (that of Hanukkah was the fourth) sent Simon a demand to return the lands he had taken over "outside the borders of Judah", otherwise he would declare war on him.

Shimon is not moved and answers the foreign ruler: "We have not taken a foreign land, nor have we taken possession of a foreigner, but the property of our ancestors, which at one time was conquered by our enemies without justice; and we, when we had time, reclaimed the property of our ancestors" (Maccabim 1:5 : 34-33, translated by Avraham Kahana).

After that he sets out to defend the borders of the country and defeats the army of Antiochus.

The document revealed by Moriah Asraf-Wahlberg in News 13 did not bring a sensational line regarding the European Union's position towards the ancient regions of our homeland.

It was written before the elections, and we already know similar documents.

But like the New York Times' constant alarm article about the fact that the government emerging following the recent elections "marks a fundamental and more profound breach than any other government in Israel's history" (only right-wing governments are permeating them) - which was echoed by elements in the American administration - the disclosure of the current document also has in order to warn and even threaten against steps that will deepen our hold on our ancestors' land and strengthen the pioneers of the mountainside.

It is not impossible that in both cases, in the US and in Europe, Israeli officials were involved. This is also known to us.

2.

One of the subjects that caught my eye was the archaeological matter.

The document calls on the European Union to "follow and monitor" Israeli archaeological activity in the field, because this serves Israel to "justify its hold on lands in Judea and Samaria."

For years the Palestinians have understood that the lack of historical and archaeological roots on their part, compared to the thousands of years of Israeli and Jewish existence in these ropes, puts them in a problem.

To this end, they are working to burn every Jewish memory in the place they can reach.

In this they continue the emperor Hadrian, who after the Bar-Kochba rebellion (135 AD) ordered to replace the name of the province "Judah" with "Syria-Palestine" or "Palestine" in all Roman documents.

The name was known from the writings of the Greek historian Herodotus, who in the 4th century BC wrote about the Sea Gentiles, the Philistines who lived in Philistia ("Palestine") and who fought the Kingdom of Israel for control of the land, until they disappeared hundreds of years earlier.

The Romans used to perform "Damnatio memoriae" - erasure of a person, or country in this case, from historical memory.

After many rebellions by the Jews for about 300 years, from the Hasmonean rebellion to Bar Kochba, Hadrian believed that with the change of the name of the land, after a generation or two the Jews would forget their land and stop fighting for it.

He also changed Jerusalem to "Ilia Capitolina".

Like Antiochus and other peoples to this day, he did not know the depth of our connection with the land and the eternal oath of the exiles of Zion not to forget Zion and Jerusalem.

3.

On the Temple Mount, for about a thousand years, the Temple of Solomon and the Temple of Shebi Zion, which was strengthened during the Herod era, were located.

Since the 20s of the last century, the tourist guidebooks of the Muslim Waqf have boasted that the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque are situated on the site of Solomon's Temple, and even brought Bible verses as evidence. Today they deny any historical Jewish presence there and work to destroy any archaeological evidence.

For us it is the "Temple Mount", while Temple Mount is meant for the Christians.

For if there are no Jewish roots on the mountain - where did Jesus work?

In doing so, they are cooperating with the Palestinian "erasure of memory".

This is not how a life-seeking civilization works

The disgrace is that the European Union cooperates with this "forgetting of memory".

Every year at this time, the UN votes on about 15 to 20 anti-Israeli resolutions, which are in fact anti-Semitic resolutions that discriminate against Israel and separate us from the family of nations. Those who promote these resolutions are the Palestinians and a friend of theirs. One of the permanent resolutions speaks of Israel violating the human rights of the Palestinians in East Jerusalem and "al-Haram al-Sharif" (the honorable holy place), which is the Muslim term for the Temple Mount. Unusually, the English equivalent Temple Mount does not appear in brackets. The Palestinians insist on this, so as not to associate the The mountain with the presence of the Jewish temple.

Every year the ambassadors of Israel argue with the European foreign ministries - not about canceling this lie, but only about adding the English term to the decision.

That's what I did too.

Last year I even visited New York, together with our ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, the Italian ambassador there, to protest the vote. In vain. They voted in favor of the decision as it is. I told my Italian interlocutors that for us it is the "Temple Mount", while Temple Mount intended for them. For, if there are no Jewish roots on the Temple Mount, where did Jesus work - on the moon? By cooperating with the Palestinian "erasure of memory" they are actually voting in favor of denying the roots of the Christian world in the Holy Land. This is not how a civilization that seeks life works.

4.

In both places, the USA and Europe, repeat their belief in the "two-state" solution. This is also the result of Palestinian action that made the second part of the sentence common: "two states for two peoples." To this day, the Palestinian Authority (and of course Hamas) does not recognize Israel as the nation state of The Jewish people. Article 20 of their national charter states that the Jews are not a people but a religion. That is, we are not entitled to self-determination as a people, and therefore are not entitled to a land. According to the definitions of the IHRA, which many Western countries have adopted, "denying the right of the Jewish people to self-determination, for example on the grounds that it exists of the State of Israel is a racist act", this is anti-Semitism. Our eyes see their struggle against the historical memory of the Jewish people in their country.

From the balcony of my house in Rehovot, you can see the Benjamin Mountains and Jerusalem without binoculars.

Ramallah too.

From the story of disengagement from Gaza, we learned what happens to the land that is vacated from Jews: it becomes a terrorist base, while its residents serve as a human shield for the actions of the organizations of death and destruction against us.

Withdrawal from the mountains of Samaria will make the center of Israel a hostage in the hands of groups that do not even control themselves.

The EU has difficulty learning from recent and distant history.

At best, this is intellectual laziness.

In any case, as always, it depends on us, on deepening our roots and on our historical consciousness.

In view of the Hanukkah candles we recall the words of Shimon the Hasmonean, our ancient president.

In those days at this time.

were we wrong

We will fix it!
