Built in the 1980s, Admiral Kuznetsov is the only aircraft carrier in the Russian Navy.

The warship has a crew of almost 2,000 men and is armed with anti-ship and anti-aircraft missile systems.

In November 2022, it was said that repairs were proceeding according to plan and the ship would be operational again in the first quarter of 2024.

The modernization is expected to

give the ship new combat potential and extend its service life by another 10 to 15 years, according to

Naval News .

However, the “Admiral Kuznetsov” has only had one combat mission for Russia so far.

This took place as part of the Russian military operation in Syria.

The fighter jets of the carrier, which was based off the Syrian coast, are said to have flown a total of 420 attacks on ground targets in Syria.

On the way back, the ruler of eastern Libya, General Khalifa Haftar, held a video conference on board the "Admiral Kuznetsov" with the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
