According to one of the clauses of the agreements in the coalition negotiations between the Likud and Otzma Yehudit, the Shin Bet will assist the police in the fight against crime in Arab society in particular, and the criminal organizations in Israel in general - this is what Walla learned today (Thursday). Until now, the Shin Bet has only been involved in security issues, and not In criminal investigations such as murder in Arab society, criminal organizations and "protection", arguing that it is not within his authority.

The move is intended to help the police fight crime, against the background of increasing violence throughout the country.

According to the clause that was agreed upon, "the government instructs the Shin Bet to assist the Israel Police in fighting nationalist crime in the criminal organizations and crime families." Later it is also written that "the government will budget for a dedicated unit in the Shin Bet for the benefit of the matter."

In the meantime, the committee that prepares the amendment to the police order known as the "Ben Gabir Law", will also meet today, which according to the plan will be passed on a second and third reading on Tuesday or Wednesday.

According to the bill, expanded powers over the police will be transferred to the designated Minister of National Security.

The law arouses widespread opposition in the legal advice to the government and the police, who claim that the current version does not balance the powers of the minister and the independence of the police, and will cause politicization in the organization and administrative and authoritative chaos.

Ben Gvir refuses to accept the amendments proposed by the ombudsman at this stage.
