The Civic's comeback: returning to Israel and only in a hybrid version

2022-12-22T18:12:17.896Z

After an absence of about a year, the Honda Civic returns to Israel in a completely new generation and with an advanced hybrid drive unit. The price has become significantly more expensive and starts at 180 thousand NIS

The Honda Civic has earned itself a position as one of the favorite Japanese family cars for the Israeli audience, even though since the 1990s it has been positioned above competitors such as the Toyota Corolla, Mazda 3 and Mitsubishi Lancer.

What helped position the Civic in this place is a sporty image, thanks to the success of Honda racing, as well as a design that is bolder than the norm and technology that is unusual for another Japanese family car.

In the last two years, Honda has pretty much disappeared from the Israeli market, a result of the effects of the Corona crisis, supply problems, and also the renewal process of Honda itself, which included the introduction of a completely new model line.

Now importer Honda is starting a local comeback, and there's nothing like the new generation of the Civic to drive the move.

The new generation of the Honda Civic, the 11th in the model's 50 years of existence, was introduced in 2021 and shares a common platform with the new generations of the HR-V and CR-V crossover vehicles that are expected to arrive in Israel later on.

The Civic comes to us in hatchback configuration, with dimensions similar to a large family sedan: a length of 455 cm and a generous wheelbase of 273 cm.

The trunk, on the other hand, is not particularly large and offers a volume of 345 liters.

The new Civic is offered internationally with Honda's familiar 1.5-liter turbo engine, but it only comes to us in the e:HEV hybrid version.

It is an advanced hybrid drive unit with a 2.0-liter engine that delivers 142 hp and most of the time is used as a generator that produces electricity for two electric motors with a combined power of 183 hp and 32 kgm.

The result is decent performance with a jump to 100 km/h in 7.8 to 8.1 seconds depending on the version, and an average fuel consumption of 20 km per liter.

The hybrid Civic comes to Israel in three trim levels, all with full safety specifications including 9 airbags (including airbags for the driver's and front passenger's legs and a central airbag), a comprehensive array of active safety systems for braking and lane keeping, an original multimedia system with a 9-inch screen, a digital dashboard , seat heating and main LED lighting.

The Civic has never been one of the cheapest models in the family category, and the price of the new generation climbs even higher.

The price of the basic trim level 'Elegance' starts at NIS 180,000.

An additional NIS 10,000 for the 'Sport' trim level also gives synthetic leather upholstery, LED fog lights and 18 inch rims.

At the top is the 'Advance' finish level, for which a not modest sum of NIS 210,000 is required, for which you also get adaptive high beam lighting, electrically adjustable front seats with leather upholstery, a BOSE audio system with 12 speakers and an electric panoramic sunroof.
