NTA reveals another delay in the most important transportation project, which will no longer work in 2032 as they estimated so far. Now, the residents of Lod, Rehovot, Ramat Hasharon and Kfar Saba will have to wait at least until 2037. The delay joins the delay in the opening of the red line of the light rail, which November 30 of this year to somewhere in 2023

Within a year, the operating date of the metro system in Gush Dan was postponed for more than two years.

If until the beginning of 2022 the estimates regarding the date of operation of the planned subway between Rehovot and Ra'anana, Tel Aviv and Lod were still moving to 2032, now it is already a partial operation in 2034 and a full operation in 2037, in 15 years.

This is what the CEO of the company, Haim Glick, revealed today (Thursday) at a conference of the NTA company that is responsible for the metro and light rail project.

Glick did not explain the reason for the postponement, but the main change that has occurred in the past year is the delay in approving the metro law designed to allow the project to move forward more quickly with the planning authorities, local authorities and government bodies.

Outgoing Transportation Minister Merav Michaeli agreed to postpone approval for the Knesset's summer session, after the Likud-led opposition threatened to delay the vote through hundreds of objections.

In the summer session, then opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu decided not to support any of the coalition's laws, including the one that was supposed to allow Israelis to enter the US without a visa, and the coalition that lost its parliamentary majority did not bring it up for a second and third reading.

Now the parties will switch, Netanyahu will head the government that is supposed to promote the most important transportation project in the coming years following the growing worsening of traffic congestion, and Michali will be in the opposition.

According to the updated schedule presented by Glick, the infrastructure relocation works for the project will begin in 2027-2028, the phase when they will cause disruption to traffic and residents.

The disruption should be smaller than now in the construction of the light rail, since it is a subway throughout its length, but the construction of the underground stations will create disruptions and result in expropriation of land, partly temporarily and partly permanently.

In 2034, partial operation of the project will begin, mainly in the area between Gilolit south of Tel Aviv, the Rishonim station in Rishon Lezion, Netavg, Kiryat Ono and Petah Tikva. It is a track length of 78.5 km and 58 stations.

Only in the second phase, in 2037, will all 109 stations and 150 km of tracks be activated, when the M1 line of the metro will be fully activated, up to Rehovot, Ramla and Lod in the south of Gush Dan, and up to Herzliya, Ra'anana and Hod Hasharon in the north of Gush Dan, including a link Direct between the Ono Valley and the area of Ramat Hay'il, Ramat Hasharon and Gilolit.

The average speed of the metro will be 35-40 km/h, compared to less than 10 km/h during rush hours on the roads today, with an array of cars for 1,300 passengers in each train, with a maximum frequency of one minute On the three lines, M1, M2 and M3, about 2 million passengers are expected to travel every day, and a total of 450 million trips per year.

The chairman of the National Transportation Agency, Mia Likvarnik, said that this is "

Without this system being established, Gush Dan will be in a disaster of accessibility, no less than that.

The stakeholders that are most important to us are the residents of Gush Dan who will be asked to continue to 'suffer' to make this project possible.

Everyone wants a metro, but not here, not now, that they won't work on Shabbat, and not between 14:00 and 16:00.

There are many interests and everything is legitimate, but in the end the public interest should prevail over everything."

The head of the Metro Directorate, Meir Shemer, explained that "the State of Israel is heading for the collapse of the metropolis at the transportation level, in the direction of Mumbai and not Dubai. An important key to success is public support. Not only in why this project is important, but also in how it is done. There is a problem of a little lack of trust, We understand. The issue of transparency is critical, when we say a schedule we know how to stand behind it."

And when will the red line work?

"In the coming days we will know."

There is also news about the operation of the Red Line, the first of the three light rail lines currently under construction that will precede the metro, which was supposed to open on November 30, which did not happen due to problems with the signaling system that operates the trains.

NTA CEO Glick said about the postponement, that "we were delayed because we are not ready to let this train travel with less than 100 percent safety. Besides this matter, all the underground stations have received form 4, they are all approved and ready for travel. The situation we are facing Ahead of it is the completion of the signaling systems. Yesterday we activated the final version, we will test it over the next three days, and if indeed the system gives a full indication of the safe travel of the train, the train will travel already during the first quarter of 2023, subject to it being safe."

During the conference, four panels were held for partners in the various sectors: infrastructure companies, local authorities, regulatory bodies and government ministries,

It was supposed to open on November 30, but it didn't happen because of the problems with the signaling system that operates the trains.

As a reminder, in August 2016, a government decision was made that tasked the NTA company to act to promote the planning of metro lines as a basis for the next stage in the development of the mass transportation system in the Tel Aviv metropolis. NTA has rich past experience working in dense urban areas, building tunnels and underground stations and the ability to manage A complex infrastructure project.

During the years 2017-2018, NTA conducted an applicability examination for three metro lines and, starting in 2019, promotes the statutory and early planning of the metro lines. In May 2020, NTA established the Department of Assessments for the Metro, which is responsible for the promotion, management and execution of the project, as well as promoting the planning of projects Urban development (building above the depot, integrated transportation centers and building above the metro stations), promoting key tenders for the detailed planning and execution stages, assessments to promote availability, formulating development strategies for the project and recruiting a supporting structure for its management.

The mass transit system is the largest and most complex transportation project ever carried out in the State of Israel.

The mass transit system includes three light rail lines - red, purple and green, and three metro lines - M1, M2, M3.

The metro is the largest national infrastructure project in the State of Israel, and it will change the transportation space in Gush Dan and yield significant benefits for the residents of Israel and the entire economy.

Along the planned metro lines, different means of public transportation will intersect, including the metro, the light rail, Israel Railways and the buses.

At these intersections there is potential for the development of transportation complexes, which allows increased accessibility to the urban space.

Due to the fact that the metro project has a significant transportation impact at these meeting points, the metro directorate is responsible for the planning of seven integrated transportation centers.

The residents of Gush Dan will be asked to continue to 'suffer' in order to make this project possible.
