According to the Congress website, the project has among its objectives "to develop and guarantee the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people, eradicating situations of discrimination."
"Specifically, it regulates the procedure and requirements for the rectification of the sex and name of the people in the records of the public and private spheres, among other issues," added the statement from the legislative body.
The approved project is an opinion with modifications of what emerged on June 27, 2022, when the Council of Ministers gave the green light to the "Draft Bill for the real and effective Equality of trans people and for the guarantee of LGTBI rights ", in a day of great relevance for the movement of sexual and gender diversity in Spain.
What is the "LGBTBI trans law"?
As its full name says, this law seeks real and effective equality for trans people, as well as guaranteeing the rights of the LGTBI+ community.
What is the "trans law" in Spain and what are its most important points?
The State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Trans, Bisexuals, Intersexuals and more mentions that Spain has worsened in terms of diversity in recent years.
As an example, he mentions that currently, for a registered change of gender identity, requirements such as "hormone for two years, diagnosis of gender dysphoria and medical reports" are necessary.
The law intends to change this panorama through one of its most important points (and most controversial, as shown by the local newspaper
El País
), known as gender self-determination.
