The alleged material author of the murder of the Paraguayan anti-corruption prosecutor Marcelo Pecci was arrested this Tuesday in Caracas, according to the arrest report obtained by CNN.

According to the document, Gabriel Carlos Salinas Mendoza, 28 years old and a Venezuelan national, was detained during a routine security operation in the capital.

Agents checked his identity documents against databases and identified him as a wanted person by Interpol.

CNN has requested the official version of the Venezuelan government, but so far has received no response.

It is also not known if the detainee has a lawyer.

Salinas Mendoza is wanted by the authorities in Colombia, who consider him a suspect in the murder of prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, which occurred in May.

Pecci was with his wife on Isla Barú, near Cartagena, when two subjects got off a jet ski, shot and killed him.

The director of the Colombian National Police, Henry Armando Sanabria, said this Wednesday at a press conference that they were notified of the arrest in Caracas and that they are working with the Venezuelan authorities so that the detainee is prosecuted.

Sanabria added that the prosecutor's offices of both countries must coordinate the procedures to be followed.

“We are waiting for the coordination carried out by the Attorney General of the Nation with its counterpart in Venezuela in order to guarantee that he serves a sentence in that country due to the impossibility of extradition due to the Constitution of that country, which prevents extradition. of their compatriots”, added Sanabria.
