Beer consumption in Bavaria fluctuates compared to the previous year.

This emerges from the annual book of the State Statistical Office.

On Wednesday, the State Statistical Office in Fürth presented the current yearbook.

We have summarized the most exciting figures from the report here.

Munich - From A for waste to Z for dental assistants: There is probably almost nothing that the State Statistical Office in Fürth does not record.

Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) presented the 2022 yearbook on Wednesday.

Here's an overview of Bavaria in numbers, a lot serious, some to smile about.

Statistical Office: Population is growing - immigration is increasing

population is growing

Bavaria is growing, as of September 30, 13.35 million people lived here.

In the past ten years there has been an increase of 854,000 people.

But it is also true that the number of births is falling again.

From January to September 2022 there were 93,577 newborns, over 8,000 fewer than in the same period in 2021.

immigration is increasing

In the first nine months of this year there were more than 192,000 immigrants from abroad and 3,800 from Germany.

70 percent of the foreign immigrants were Ukrainian war refugees.

They are followed by Romanians (11,000) and Afghans (5,500).

apartments scarce

Housing shortage is a big issue.

But it is also true that with 49.1 square meters there is more space available for every inhabitant than ever before.

For Herrmann, this is "an expression of increased prosperity".

There are a total of 6.6 million apartments, but the increase in 2021 was only a modest 58,000.

"The Free State is getting through the crises well," says the Minister of the Interior.

At an average of 3.1 percent in 2022, the unemployment rate will again be the lowest in all of Germany.

There were 7.78 million people in employment subject to social security contributions in the second quarter: a record.

Beer consumption varies

Beer sales are, well, wildly fluctuating.

Seriously, things have been better for the breweries.

2.4 million hectoliters were sold in the summer months.

In 2021 it was still 2.6 million hectoliters per month.

Yes to household appliances

Four out of five households, almost 80 percent, have a dishwasher (but less than 60 percent of single households).

Fifty percent of households have tumble dryers, but it is 70 percent of married couples with children.

Population sticks to the car - more and more cars in Bavaria

Infatuated with the car

Is the population saying goodbye to the car?

"You can't see any of that in the statistics," replies Herrmann.

The number of cars registered in Bavaria is increasing “month by month, year by year”.

Around 8.2 million cars were registered in Bavaria at the beginning of 2022, half a million more than in 2017. The share of hybrid and electric vehicles was 5.2 percent.

Often care at home

A mega topic: care.

By far the majority of those in need of care, around 60 percent, are cared for at home, and 21 percent are also outpatients.

110,000 of the 580,000 people in need of care in Bavaria live in a nursing home.

The head of the State Statistics Office, Thomas Gößl, announced a Bavaria-wide forecast down to the counties.

In this way, the need for care places should be better assessed.

Agriculture & Livestock

Bavaria is 7.05 million hectares in size, three million hectares are agricultural land.

Grain cultivation takes up a good one million hectares.

Livestock is declining (six million pigs and cattle).

deaths

Almost 148,000 people died in Bavaria in 2021.

The number of deaths from domestic accidents was 1778 in 2020, of which 1617 were from falls and 185 from stairs.

There were 1523 suicides.

And otherwise?

Inflation was 11 percent in October, but everyone knows that.

13 million chickens live in Bavaria, probably not everyone knows.

The Bavarians collected 1.56 million tons of recyclable materials, almost half of which is paper/cardboard.

And there is one constant: the dream of Bavarian youth is to become a car mechatronics technician (over 12,000 trainees).

But at least there are almost 6000 who want to become dental assistants.
