Ironically, at the pre-Christmas rush hour, more than 200 traffic lights failed in the Munich city area.

The police are currently directing traffic.

Munich – On Thursday, December 22nd, the city center of Munich was already jam-packed during the day.

Two days before Christmas, many people were still trying to buy presents for their loved ones, the shops and the city center were full to bursting.

In the course of the afternoon, the rush-hour traffic was added to the already crowded streets – and at around 5 p.m. of all days in Munich “more than 200 traffic lights” failed, as the police confirmed when asked by

"More than 200 traffic lights" failed in Munich - throughout the city

In an interview with our editors, the Munich police confirmed that the traffic lights were still off at 5:15 p.m.

In addition, one knows neither how long the failure of the traffic lights will last nor what the fault is.

According to the police spokesman, this is the responsibility of the public utility company.

At this point in time, no accidents directly related to the traffic light failure have been registered.

The only thing that is certain is that the disruption will affect the entire city area.

Traffic lights failed from Orleansplatz in the east of Munich to Sendling in the south of Munich.

"As assessed" - police officers direct the traffic

When asked, the police spokesman confirmed that police officers are currently controlling traffic.

But not everywhere, but “after assessment”.

For example, there are no police officers on small side streets that are not heavily trafficked.

But for example at Orleansplatz, where the entire traffic light system failed.
